After reading the Sammich owner responses to reviews posted by others, I knew I was in for a doozy!!! Sad that he couldn't care less that the underside of his tables destroys clothes.

Disclaimer: I know that this post is long, so a lot of you won't want to read it all. But I figure it's a pretty comical read if you are killing time. I also like to post what I'm referring to instead of forcing one to go to another site and look it all up.

Here's his response...

3/17/2015 • I can see why you don't want to be contacted by business owners...you're a food critic in the making and you want to preserve your anonymity! Congrats to you!

Sorry you found the place boring. We try to liven things up with our wit and sarcasm. Most people come for the TV's and stay for the food. As far as the tables go, the unsanded underside makes it quite an adventure when one tries to stick their ABC gum to the table!

Yep, the service pretty much sucks here but then again, it pretty much does at EVERY poboy shop in the city. We're not white table cloth and for that I'm very sorry but table clothes are expensive and we'd rather keep our drink prices low.

Lobster? Chinese? I can see that. It has tempura batter, mango, and peanut sauce. I'd say more Japanese but you're close! Korean not Korean? I got the recipe from an 85 year old woman named Kim Soo Nah. I just assumed she was Korean...my bad.

Poor Value for the Sammiches... sorry bout that. We choose to use the best ingredients and unfortunately my vendors don't cut me many breaks. Jimmy John's is cheap and they give you chips too, plus they're really "freaky" fast!

Drink values are phenomenal!!! Unlike the food, we get great deals on the booze so we pass that along as best we can. Sorry we have bills and taxes to pay so we can't just give it away.

Kevin at the Milk Bar is a really good guy. Tell him we recommended you visit him and he'll give you a sucker!

==================

Response to someone else's review that complained about the high price...

3/2/2015 • Try ordering at Parkway, Mother's, Domelice's, Mahoney's, Guy's, Crabby Jack's, or any other po-boy shop in New Orleans. I'm sure you will find you have to order at a counter or bar. If it's busy....enjoy the wait! And if you want big for cheap, try Danny and Clyde's on Clearview, Jimmy John's or Subway. I'm sure they will be more appealing to you. While we're at it, thanks for telling us your concerns while we could try to fix the problem. Yelp is a great tool for faceless dolts to voice their opinions without repercussions. Enjoy Jimmy Johns!

===================================

Response to yet another review complaining about the high price vs. portion size...

Glad you gave us 3 stars and you're not coming back. If you want sides with you poboys, you may want to try Jimmy John's or Subway. The value meals come with a drink and chips. They're really cheap too! I can promise nothing there is cooked in house.

=================================

Response to a reviewing complaining about two sandwiches being too sweet, and also complaining about the price...

3/2/2015 • YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!! The escargot come tossed in a HONEY Jalapeño Beurre Blanc. Honey is sweet! The Lobster has a MANGO butter sauce. Mango is sweet! Most Korean BBQ sauces have Hoisin, Plum, Duck, and Peanut sauces, all of which are SWEET! READ THE FREAKING MENU NEXT TIME and if you have an issue PLEASE bring it to the attention of the manager or owner instead of the faceless forum of Yelp. Oh yeah, as far as the fries.... go to McDonalds, you'll like those better and they're cheaper.

=======================

Response to reviewer complaining about slow service and the food not being very good...

Next time, PLEASE go to McDonald's!! I'm sure you will enjoy everything there! And by the way, thanks for bringing your thoughts to our attention while you were here so we could at least, try to fix the problem. You are a great example of why Yelp is horrible. Instead of voicing your issues in person, you take to the faceless forum of Yelp, probably hoping, that somewhere, some one will listen to your efforts of trying to be a food critic. Good luck at McDonald's!

===============================

Let's start a poll on how long this place is gonna last.

Agreed. It's one thing not to care about your high prices, or your crappy service, but to not give a crap about the fact that your tables damage clothing?

wow .
I applaud a restaurant owner for being confident enough in his product and having enough loyal clientele to disregard some of the many unwarranted reviews on Yelp, but this dude is just being a dick. It would be hard for me to ever patronize his place with that kind of retort.

I guess when you put that much time and sweat equity into starting up a business and then have people shite on it, some people just can't handle it.

What a tool. My friend who runs chickiwahwah (where they started) said they were bad tenants there and basically were glad to see them leave.

Prior to his response to my review...and prior to reading his response to other reviews...

I had planned to go back there just for appetizers and drinks, as I felt the apps is where they shined, and their drink and beer prices are great, and they have a great selection of beer. But I absolutely wouldn't step foot in the place now.

If you can't take criticism, and you refuse to use it as a tool to improve, then you're doomed...especially in the restaurant industry.

When I first opened my place, we got complaints about the wording on the menu. I didn't cry about it, I changed it. No hurt feelings. Same with the food. There were constant adjustments on menu items, food ingredients, and price in order to adjust to comments we were hearing. It's just good business.

Was this for real? Wow. And I'm busting my arse through work and school to potentially run my own place and this moron posts those kind of comments...

His comeback response of maybe you should try Subway or Jimmy Johns tells you everything you need to know about the guy.
