I haven't sold anything on ebay in awhile.. wife is selling a 1 month used Note 4 for $500. We've had the normal pervs who wanna take the sale offline. Not worried about those.

What I am worried about is completing the auction, shipping the device and the buyer saying somethings wrong to get their money back.

Is that a valid concern? I've read recently that ebay is so skewed towards the buyer you can get hit by it.

I sell stuff on ebay all the time with no issues. One note of caution, if you get an email from paypal saying an item is paid for, go and log into your account to make sure you actually got paid. I had one fake paypal email that showed up and looked pretty legit, other than that no problems.

I would sell it on swappa you'll pay less in fees. Getting scammed like that is a valid concern. I've never had it happen to me but Paypal pretty much always sides with the buyer unless the seller has proof that the buyer is lying.

I used to sell pretty frequently. Not sure about current but Ebay almost ALWAYS sides with the buyer. I actually had to make a claim one time as a buyer. The seller was pissed, but I never got the item. Ebay sided with me over her just on my word.

I don't know if you'll get scammed (not likely, as I sell on ebay and as long as you have someone sign for the shipment and have it shipped ONLY to the paypal-confirmed address you should be good) but the fees are just brutal. Sold some high-end kitchen ware last week. $510 for a set of pots and pans, and 10% final value fee. I'm sure that's what it will be for you as well, so for something like a cell phone I'd think you could get rid of it locally for 90% of what you could get on ebay and not have to mess with it.

That's what insurance is for. If this happens, have them send it back, file an insurance claim (which is usually processed within 24 hours), get your insurance money and then turn around and sell the same device as "broken." You essentially get paid twice. Sometimes buyers will even get an item, remove parts and ship it back as broken. It's part of the game. As long as the buyer's comments are logged through the appropriate eBay channels of communication, eBay has never given me grief about insurance claims. Always, always, always insure your sales through eBay whenever possible.

Thanks all, She's got it posted on ebay and I'm convinced there's more pervs and scammers there than a kiddie park. Geez Louise...

If there is a certain amount of time left in the auction you may be able to cancel it. May not be worth it but just a thought.

Meet in a public place with good security cameras and be aware of your surroundings, but this is much better than shipping and dealing with fees.

I tried to sell the same phone on eBay twice a couple of months ago. Both buyers used Buy It Now and never paid, and there's no way to leave negative feedback for them. I'm pretty much done with eBay, as a seller anyway.

Eliminating the buy it now seems to deter the scammers as they don't want to waste their time following auctions. I've only had problems with hot items, like when i tried to sell a 360 when they first came out.
