I am big on bashing Jimmy for being a lack luster, negative, arrogant nola beat writer most of the time. But this time he did a good job highlighting EG's season fighting through injury and becoming a reliable teammate. So I have to give him a little credit.

quote:

"He just doesn't get enough credit for that," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. "He could have had the surgery months ago when it happened and gotten himself ready for next year, which would be a contract year for him. Most guys would have opted for that.

"His decision to hold off on that and help our team, I think, has been one of the unsung acts of this year, him not having that surgery. Who knows where we'd be if we didn't have Eric. And who knows where we would have been had he been healthy those 20 (actually 21) games."

Agreed.

Its completely understandable for Pelicans fans to be upset about Gordons play and contract the last 3 years.
But nobody can complain or want to get rid of arguably our second best player right now. I, for one, am more than glad EG has been playing well and I hope he returns next year and that we sign him to another deal (obviously not a max deal) in 2 years if he keeps up his play and shooting.

I was just as disgruntled with Eric as the next Hornets/Pels fan was but he really has turned the corner for me. I think attitude goes a long way with fans and there is a distinct difference between EG now and EG when he first came here.

I can handle the disappointment of a large contract and that player underperforming (aka Peja) but what really chaps my arse is a large contract for a player that seemed uninterested to play for your home team.

I am a EG fan these days and I hope we resign him

I too have stopped bagging on EG10, he really is doing well this year. I hope we can keep him at a more affordable contract.

I don't think he gets enough credit for his passing. He gets Asik the cleanest looks of any of our guards.

Not just Asik. He also does a really good job with AD. He seems to pass the ball to where the shooter/slasher needs it, rather than "to the player." His pocket passes are often to a spot that allows the shooter to almost walk into their shooting motion, which keeps the shooter on balance.

Problem with him being a long term guy is his defense. Cannot stay in front of guys. He also cannot finish at the rim anymore. Basically a one dimensional player, can only shoot. His passing is a nice surprise but it can only go so far due to lack of quickness to get past guys and get to the rim and finish like he used to.

Great to see him be a decent player though.

His defense isn't that bad, actually. He plays the best team defense we have on the perimeter. He squeezes down on the post really effectively, which does sometimes leave him closing out and out of position, but the alternative is an easy play in the post.

If you can consistently shoot 45% from 3 and get a few assists per game that isn't a one dimensional player. That's a valuable cog in the current style of NBA offense.
