if its a 1.5 cap hit, then we'd be 800k under the cap.

But I can't recall a team ever willingly eating more cap than necessary to facilitate a trade.

It may happen more than we are aware.

Lets hope he see's the 1 year show me for what it is and over performs next year.
Put your head through the wall for us El and you will get paid. Either by us or someone else who makes a trade for you and we get even more draft pics.

That's the actual details. He won't be released before April 1st so he'll carry a $1.9m cap figure this year.

I didn't know it was possible but you can prorate roster bonuses so maybe all these "conversions" we thought were happening were just the proration kicking in.

quote:

Currently, his cap charges are $1.2 million in 2015 and $5.2 million in 2016 and 2017. Those numbers will inflate by $700,000 on April 1 once Ellerbe’s roster bonus becomes guaranteed.

As part of the new deal, Ellerbe also lowered his base salaries of $6.45 million and $6 million in 2016 and 2017 to $4.1 million in each of the next two seasons.

He will receive $1 million roster bonuses in the final two seasons and $100,000 workout bonuses in all three seasons.

Edit:
Okay I read the other article that said the Dolphins are taking care of this year's roster bonus so he would be a $1.2m cap hit, and if he plays well and we keep him a $5.2m each of the next two years.

It does. It happened when we traded Bush.

It's basically a give take. When a player is traded none of his money is guaranteed(some could become guaranteed if he had a roster bonus written in but only when it reaches the date). The team that traded for said player sometimes wants to lower the cap hit and the players wants some guarantees.

It's a win win.
