LSU is in the big dance after a long dry spell. The team has looked brillant at times beating (2) top 20 teams, West Virgina and Arkansas on the road. Yes, they have endured poor losses and embarassment, but Jones has the program going in the right direction and a recruiting class reminisent of the early Dale Brown years. Enjoy the ride Tiger fans ...

Agreed. His coaching leaves a bit to be desired at times but he has provided the spark and recruiting this program needed to get out of the doldrums. When Trent Johnson was here things felt hopeless. The program is definitely in better shape.

But, but, but he hoards timeouts and we have no inbound plays!!!!!!

-says the armchair fans who would rather have Trent Johnson's 2-14 conference records and 111th ranked recruiting classes.

He needs to tighten the ship IMO. The team is way too hot and cold. They play with no consistency. He is going to lose his top two players after the season. And while Simmons may be great, he is not going to change the team all by himself.

With that said, I'd rather be in this situation than the one Trent Johnson left it in.

He's no Coach K, but they've improved every year since he's been on board, and we have the No. 1 and No. 14 recruits coming in next year. I'd say we're on the right track.

like at the ends of games, you mean?

This was good:

Recruiting 9.5, Representing LSU 9.0, coaching 7.5

I would say recruiting 8.5 up to now, and 9.0 counting the 2016 class, coaching 4.0. (guard play and over all offense an embarrassment in last 4 minutes of the U of K game. some of that has to be coaching since it was toward the end of the season. Aubie game another head scratcher. Cant go over 4.0 coaching with those ends of games on his record. Time will tell. I cut him slack dealing with a lot of young players.
I also add in his staff. They can't all just recruit. Someone wrote on here yesterday that the 19 missed free throws in the Aubie game was all on the players. I disagree. Probably just means the coaches can't shoot free throws either. There are instructional videos teaching all three of the primary ways to shoot free throws.
Some teams MAKE the players practice free throws under the eye of a coach. The should should should on the players does not cut it.
You can teach them. Someone can teach them, anyway.
you, one, the coach. Mr X. Mrs X.

All that matters at the end of the day.

This is an opportunity for the players to man up and take coaching out of the equation. The toughest team will win. And hope the 3s fall for the good guys.

He'll be in the tourney again next year. Brady was the last coach to go to the dance back to back, right?

Have you watched his highlights? I don't think this is out of the realm of possibility.

actually I've seen no one say they would prefer Trent Johnson

but I have seen a lot of posts are they would prefer Brady. Brady was a good coach when he had talent…the problem was we only had talent when Collis Temple recruited him local Baton Rouge kids….so once every 3 years we were good.

I agree with all of the above to an extent. But I see the issue that Johnny is having being more a function of not having an experienced/quality point guard who is the leader/coach on the floor. For example in these games, we don't lose to Auburn, Missouri, Clemson, and Texas A&M if we play better at that position defensively and when it comes to situation awareness. I believe JJ will get this fixed but the growing pains at that position have led to some of the mindless actions on the court. But with that said, I hope we kick the shite out of NC State and beat and overrated Nova team. Virginia should have been on the #1 line.

wouldn't call it "brilliant", but definitely a step in the right direction.

I hope we can retain some key members from this team to match up with Ben Simmons.

nah. this is not WWE.

the team that can run plays with the game on the line could win.

the team that can make free throws could win.

yes, the team that rebounds best could win.

the team that makes no unforced floor errors could win.

Any of that sound like LSU? the rebounding.

You try to make arguments based on what you feel, not reality. Lsu scores 74 points a game, but people are pissed at our offense. Lsu averages 15 turnovers a game, but bave a top 5 quickest TOP. Meaning, you will turn the ball over more. If we played a slow, half court game, our turnovers would be down. We have an uptempo game, players have freedom to play how they like. I love it, and HS kids love it and that's why we are getting good players.

There is not one player on this team who played for LSU 2 years. The turnaround he's made with this team that quickly is actually quite remarkable

JJ has certainly improved recruiting, but our play has been inconsistent. And his in-game coaching is lacking.

Glad we're in the Dance, but remember that 2 of our last 3 games were terrible losses to Tennessee and Auburn. And both of those were when we knew we needed a win.

So I question his ability to get his team to play up to their capability. And this is an issue.

Just because I wouldn't rather have Trent Johnson doesn't mean we should have low expectations and accept that he seems to run a loose ship as far as basketball fundamentals go. He appears to be skating by on talent and not coaching the players to their full potential, whether or not that's true, no one without inside knowledge of the program knows for sure.

That said, it's great were in the tourney, and hopefully we bring it against state.
