Got my pups micro chip in the mail. Is this something I should be doing?

So a few days ago I received the papers for my pup. Also inside was the chip kit. Ill talk to the breeder later this evening, but is this something I can safely do myself or do I need to bring it to the vet to handle? Seems like an easy process but I'd hate to stick my dog in the wrong spot. What yall think?

If you have to bring him to the vet soon, I would just wait. Even if you do it right, your pup will probably be pissed of at you.

I had the vet do mine when my dog needed some stitches from a cut, they had to sedate him anyway so figured I might as well have them do it.

might have just told them to stick it in before they stitched him up.

I don't have time for a vet visit at the moment. I'll be doing it later

Let the vet do it. They have the tool that reads the chip number so they can verify everything is working.

pup will probably bite the shite out of you. You'll respond by beating his arse because you seem like the type of person who would do such a thing. At the very least, get some lidocaine to deaden the injection site before you put the chip in. But I'm sure you're too busy to wait. Let me know how the ensuing abcess and infection effect your schedule. chances are you will be making another trip to your vet. so much for saving money/time.

coincidentally, how will you know the chip is working? Do you have a scanner? Will the chip be registered with anyone (ie traceable)? Or are you just going to implant it and assume everyone will know its registered to you?

Bring him to the vet, I'm sure it's an easy process but not exactly someone you want to install incorrectly. Not worth the risk for an hour of your time

The vet did my dogs. It is a big arse needle and they verify that it's working after. He was mad at me though on the ride home.

I'm gonna hold off on it for now. Talked with the vet and he said he would walk me through it, but that's a big arse needle.

It's a huge needle and I watched her do it. Took a lot of force to get it in and the dog was legit hurting.
