"He's exactly what we're looking for," said Payton with a wide grin, several months before the Graham trade. "Each week you know exactly what you're gonna get. He's talented, he can run, he's young. He's consistent. Those are things that allow you to win."

Roto tidbit

This kid is why I loved getting Unger in the Jimmy trade. Hill looked great when he played last year. Give Brees time to throw, he'll still carve teams up.

eta. I guess its an old quote. But its still fitting given the situation.

This is also why I think for this year at least we have our tight ends for the season in Watson and Hill.

Dude will flat lay out for a pass. He's made some terrific catches last year. I'm calling the Josh Hill breakout pain train for 2015! Who's with me?

Watson averaged 40 catches a year before coming here (as a backup TE with the Pats and a starter for the shitty Browns). He's a very legit pass catcher. Between him and Hill we will be more than fine at TE.

Given his production compared to his game play. Its not far fetched.

Let's hope CSP is more right about Hill than he was about Erik Lorig.

I agree, but the whole thing hinges on Brees' being protected. Brees can make anyone all world when he has time. And Hill stepped up when it was his chance. That made Jimmy expendable imo.

I love Hill and love the trade!!! Hill won't fumble on the one foot yard line and doesn't have Graham's shitty attitude!!!

he got 5 TDs and he barely saw the field. Didn't even notice until I looked him up.

He played every game. Lead special teams in tackles and played a bunch of snaps on the offensive side of the ball. You didnt notice him because his name isnt Brees, Graham, Colston, Thomas, etc…

Coaches speak. Big downgrade.

However, I feel like the NO Saints overall offense is improved and better prepared for a deep run into the playoffs if they were to make them. They're better prepared for ground and pound, and CJ Spiller could put up great numbers if he can stay healthy.

Adding to the offensive line even more through the NFL Draft would be key here.

To be fair outside of replacing him with Gronk, Julius Thomas, Greg Olsen... basically anything would be a big downgrade. I do think they will be much more balanced though. As you said, they need to hit on draft picks. LB, OL, WR, DL.

As of now the offensive line isn't bad, with Lelito being able to play guard. He should've been the starting Center last season

Armstead, Lelitio, Unger, Evans, Strief is better than what we had last season. A guy like Collins would be a nice get in the draft, but I don't see the value of him at 13, and he'll be gone before 31. Maybe they'll trade back a bit and acquire an additional second or something.

He has good hands. While not that many catches I don't recall many drops at all.

Saints will draft/UDFA TE for depth and practice squad.

Given the timing of when Payton made the comment, I don't think so.

Like CL said anybody outside of a "star TE" is a "step down". But Hill proved he could hold his own. If you look at the numbers, Hill will be more than capable of stepping up to replace Graham.
