What is the most practical way to negotiate a contract-to-hire job offer straight into a permanent hire?

Or also, negotiating a contract-to-hire role straight into a permanent role within the window of one's contractual period?

Is this practice seen as a bad idea?

Right off the bat? There's a reason it's contract to hire. How do you know there aren't any headcount issues?

Demonstrate that you are truly valuable. It isn't about negotiation, it's about demonstration.

There's still flexibility in initial contract terms. Some people have obvious value.

If they have 8 years full-time experience in the skill that you are looking for and have good references from those jobs, then that in itself is valuable. Often there is somebody in your organization that has heard of them or have worked with them before and can attest that they are experts in the subject matter. It's just a matter of if they fit in with your organization or not and also how well business is doing.
