Never read the book though.

You'll hate the movie if you do.

I read it the first time as an 11 year old kid on my way to and for a few days in a trailer at Toledo Bend on Spring Break. It was terrible weather for the first two days we were there that year, so I sat in a dark trailer with thunder and lightening and howling wind while reading it. I couldn't put it down. Such a cool experience.

Can't you really say this for any Crichton novel not named Jurassic Park? (One could argue Andromeda Strain)
I think you have a point. But Coma, Disclosure, the Great Train Robbery, were all pretty good movies.

However, the movie was horrible and extremely boring.

Loved it, and watch it at least once a year.

Yep. Boyhood is the best example (IMO) bc it literally won awards and praise on concept alone. Not quality of final product.

Unbroken could've been huge with the right director and actors.

Idiocracy. The premise is spot on but its really a shitty film.

I think I'd put Prometheus in that list. I was really intrigued with the idea of the movie. It was also beautifully shot but most of the characters just sucked. From the "scientist" who takes his helmet off right after landing on an alien planet to the geologist who gets lost even after mapping everything out with high tech equipment. Those things kinda spoiled it for me. Plus I had such high expectations for that film..

Coma

Not a Crichton book.

Disclosure

I'll say this one was sub par, not terrible. Not my favorite of his novels either.

Great Train Robbery

Forgot about that one. Pretty solid movie, Connery and Sutherland. I've actually never read the book.

I agree with the many folks who say it should have been a miniseries.

We need a spin off to discuss shitty premises that are actually watchable in reality.

i think it's solid, but the production/marketing was a big mess

Not Mike Judge's fault though

I thought that's what this thread was. Cause I like me some Freejack even if the plot is completely impossible.
