Best central air unit brand?

Just had to put a new motor on the condensing unit and found out the condenser and air handler are from 1987. The unit has been working well but I think it's only time before major repairs are needed. Any recommendations on what brands are best? Unit is a 5 ton system. Live in Baton Rouge area if that matters.
Also, any thoughts on swap out costs? (single story house, air handler is in attic)

Carrier or Trane/American Standard.

No complaints with Trane, first one lasted 25+ years.

Frankly, all of them suck nowadays...regardless of what you pay, you will never have another system that lasts 25+ years...

my current Trane is 25 and still going.

Install is 80% of unit longevity. You can have a hack put a Trane in and last less than five years or a pro put a Goodman in and last twenty.

My Lennox is over 20 years old. It has worked well, but I figure its days are numbered.
Are the new Lennox units good quality?

Carrier is a solid brand. But they're a Yankee company from Syracuse... So there's that...

Rheem and Lennox have always done well by me.

About to replace our 35 year old unit. 6k for a Bryant Evolution series.

Just had my split system replaced. All Bryant stuff. Much improved over the Trane system that was put in and wasn't really that old 10 - 12 years or so. You can go with Trane, Bryant, Carrier, Lennox, LG, Mitsubishi, ect and expect long service life if you do your part on proper maintenance. Fail to do your part and you can expect any of them to fail as well.

Every brand is manufactured by like 2 or 3 companies now. They are essentially all the same.

Had Trane/AS.
Put in Carrier Greenspeed.
Had to get used to it back-talking me when I put the heat on.
"You think this is cold? You don't know from cold."
Pretty good system, though, even with it's Yankee-ness.

I have a Lennox XP25 heat pump and carrier that we replaced a similar sized American Standard with. The AS unit was way older and not not very efficient as it was a seer 6 or 9 unit when we installed it. The Lennox unit is way more efficient with noticably less humidity in the house. The air always seemed really thick with the old AS heat pump unit.

Any recommendations on seer rating? At some point, it seems like there would be diminishing returns the higher you go on the rating.
Also are there big differences in variable speed, two stage, single stage...?

I had 2 Trane units installed Thursday. I had Trane previously and got 15 years out of them.
