I went there recently and was very unimpressed. Below is my experience:

1. Ordered Thin & Crispy Fried Catfish - $14.95
This type of dish always comes with fries or something but the menu stated it only came with a side item. I figure "ok so there must be a lot of fish if no fries and only a side for $15.
Side items to choose from are normally $2.75 if bought separately. Wedge salad, however, costs $2.50 if bought separately.
I like wedge salads and didn't want any of the sides they had to choose from so I ask if I could substitute a side item for the cheaper wedge salad. The waitress immediately refused, saying I must purchase the wedge salad separately if I wanted one. So I'm thinking she misunderstood me and I kindly explain to her that I wanted to substitute the more expensive item for a cheaper item, and still pay the extra .25 cents.
This blew her mind. She even called over another waitress to check if it was okay and the second waitress looked at me as if I was asking for dog meat.
I finally give up, irritated, and choose the more expensive side (after offering to pay same price for a cheaper item = win for restaurant).
Very few tiny pieces of fish on a huge plate. fricking pathetic.

2. My wife and I both order two waters. Waitress brings back a water and sweet tea.
No biggie, that shite happens,

3. Wife orders a shrimp poboy. Bitch waitress brings it back and says, "Shrimp poboy with added cheese, like you asked for".
WHO THE frick ORDERS A SHRIMP POBOY WITH frickING CHEESE!? Is that a thing?
Obviously the wife didn't order the cheese. We return it for a normal motherfricking shrimp poboy but had to wait for 10 minutes before it came while my food sat on the table getting cold. I wasn't gonna eat while my wife watched.

4. Ketchup containers were in those little plastic/rubber squeeze things with the nozzle at the top. I asked the waitress for ketchup and she looks at another table and sees one there. She sighs, audibly, and grabs it then puts it on our table.
I go to use it and it's blocked by old ketchup in the nozzle. I can't get it out without squeezing really hard into my napkin (so it wouldn't all come bursting out all over me). This didn't work - it still did that and now my wife and I both have ketchup on us.

5. The food was okay - not great. Service obviously sucks a-hole and they're obviously fricking stupid (see the side vs. Salad explanation). I won't ever go back. Terrible experience and overly priced.

I find that service sucks in Ascension Parish restaurants in general. Bitchy teenagers who feel like they're doing you a favor.

This establishment is on Hwy 44 near Pelican Point.
I figured I could get better exposure on the OT and plus, it's a complaint thread. Those seem to fit right in here on the OT.

Oh this was a grown arse woman. Probably multiple kids with different meth heads. A teenager would have been better.

Motiva plant in Convent and Shell Geismar love that place. Seriously.

I'll go, but same as you, very very unimpressed with anything. Service is always sub par to okay, and food is okay but overpriced for the portion. Dudes who work my Friday LOVE it and order either the gumbo or the chicken fried steak every freakin time.

I'd rather eat lunch at the clubhouse at the golf course. 1000x better.

If I am in that area for lunch, no way I am going anywhere over Cafe Burnside.

Yea Don's does have good service. Their food is hit or miss, I find, though. I'd go there over Pelican House any day of the week though.

I've had bad service a few times, part of the reason I quit going.

Yeah the only thing that's consistenly good over there are the jacked up oysters and the cajun ravioli. The boiled shrimp can be really good but sometimes I think they mix up the cayenne and the ghost pepper powder.
