Air Conditioner help question

My air conditioner broke last night. I can't get the outside or inside units to turn on. I've checked the pan in the attic and it doesn't have water in it. I also tried flipping the breaker. Anything else that is not too difficult that I could try?

Air handler outside not turning on also?
No water. Condenser problem

It could be something as simple as the thermostat. First, will the fan run by itself? Try that, then make sure it's set on cool and lower the temperature to several degrees lower than your house. Make sure batteries are fresh in thermostat. Depending on what you find will dictate what to try next.

Changed the batteries in thermostat last night. The fan will run when I switch it to that.
When I put it on auto and move thermostat down about 4 degrees, the thermostat shows that the AC is on but it's not actually on.

There is no water in the pan, but you still may have a bad switch. Can you find the switch in the pan and move it, and hear a clicking sound? Something's holding you out, it could be that switch or a faulty thermostat.

There is no outside air handler.

Is the outside unit trying to start? Can you hear the compressor humming trying to start? Is the exhaust fan on top of the unit starting?
If your exhaust fan isn't running, you can try to help it with a stick through the vent. I've had that problem before, and bumping the fan blade got me through the weekend.

This may help you test the thermostat.

Beyond that, it may be wiring going to the condenser outside. I've had that happen before. You may have to break down and make a phone call. I've read that super low refrigerant will prevent the system from coming on.

I found the switch and it is making the clicking sound when I move it. The unit outside does not sound like it's trying to come on.

If you have a meter try to test the thermostat. I'm out of simple things to check. Good luck.

You probably have another breaker in the cutoff switch outside. It has fuses in it that can also blow.

Not sure how electrically qualified you are, so don't want to get you in too deep. If you don't feel comfortable digging into the unit electrically, I would call someone out. I've had ants get into the contactors and not allow the unit to come on, but you have to feel pretty competent electrically to get into that area.
Thats why I suggested bumping the exhaust fan. Pretty simple and can buy some time, if that is the issue.

My condenser would start without the fan coming on, but would soon trip because the fan was weak. Sure, I could 'kick start' the fan, but you'd have to do that every time until the problem is corrected. Fan motor or capacitor.

It could be lot's of stuff, but most of it could be over his head unless he's qualified. Just don't want to get the guy hurt troubleshooting something he can't fix.
I had a bearing failing on my exhaust fan, and once running, would run fine, until the unit shut off. Then I would have to help start it occasionally until I could replace the fan.

Thanks for all the help, I just called someone out. I was just mainly wanting to make sure it wasn't something really simple before I called someone out.
