SamsClub/Walmart is a great organization.

Say what you want, but I just helped my son get a job at Sams and the entire process was the most impressive thing I've seen.
He's a minor so they are going out-of-their-way to accommodate his schedule and hours worked. In fact, he's the first minor they've hired at this location.
He starts at $8.50 as a greeter, moves to $9.50 in June and $10.50 in September. That's a 25% raise in 6 months!
If he chooses to take on a more demanding position , he has the opportunity to make even more money.
They have a special Walmart checking account system and a financial advisor to help guide him through splitting his direct deposit into multiple savings, brokerage and retirement accounts if he wants to take advantage of that.
His ID badge won't let him 'clock in' during school hours.
They support and encourage him to continue his education after high school.
He's just doing this part time while he's in high school but I'm damn impressed with the whole organization so far.

I worked for Sam's very briefly(end of summer of 95) and I believe they offer tuition assistance for accredited colleges/universities as well.
Lots of folks don't know McDonalds does this to try and keep some decent shift managers while they go to college.

This just triggered the memory that I applied to work at Brookshires in high school and they didn't even call me in for an interview. What the hell was wrong with me, Brookshires?

yeah this sounds braggy i guess..but honestly i was just so impressed with how Sams is run i had to share.
particularly because of all the knee-jerk hate the waltons get on this (and every) internet board.
perception <> reality

growing up we FOUGHT LIKE BANSHEES for the occasional McDonalds $3.35/hr job that would open up.
i cant believe how much he's making as a GREETER but i guess thats because i'm old and out of touch

He would enjoy the Walton school of business. Go up and visit at some point.

honestly it was probably that there was nothing wrong with you. Brookshires tends to hire some of the more difficult to employ people and helps them out. Bill has been working at the line avenue location since I was still riding in the cart.

I find that hard to believe... Oh, never mind, I thought you said minority.

the problem is all the Walmart haters think the employees should be getting paid more for what they do, but using your son as an example, you don't even need to be a college graduate to do most of the shite there so why should you expect $15 an hour for a job that requires zero skills.

No one cares about your kids shitty job

But let's be honest, the Walmarts in Williamson County are probably better than Walmarts in most other parts of the nation.
Good for him to get a job while in school though.
Better than most of his entitled generation.

Makes sense. I was in the honors program at Byrd whereas my friends who worked there were in gen pop.

I worked at Sam's for 9 months and I had to beg more reasonable hours. They kept giving me less than 20. Retail is shite in general. But for a minor that doesn't have bills, it's a great place to learn some work ethic.
