OT's thoughts on the frozen yogurt places

I enjoy it because they have good toppings that you can put on, and I partake once every month or two. However, I'm at one now and watching the people, and let's just say they aren't helping America's obesity epidemic. It's quite disgusting really. What say ye?

So this is going to stop you from eating at yogurt shops?

All the kids like it after school.

I've always loved them. Great business model.

It's basically a buffet, so...trashy

Invested in one. Lost my arse despite an 80 percent gross profit margin.
Learned a lesson with zeroes at the end of it, but I can answer all of your froyo related questions.

They are awesome and will make you fat but not quite as fat as an ice cream place with the same topping options and stuff. But I mean fat vs slightly less fat but still fat, you're still fat.

Sounds like you got robbed.
One employee stole all the cash out of till one Saturday night. That was part of the problem, finding decent help was nearly impossible. Then about 15 chains popped up. Lease ran out and I and the other main investor said screw it and told the third guy to buy us out or lose his arse with us.
Equipment is pretty expensive. Some of those machines cost as much as a inexpensive new car. The yogurt comes two ways. There are primarily two companies (Honey Hill Farms and YoCream) that make a liquid mix that tastes a lot better than the powder that most of the Asians use.
Weirdest flavor we ever had was Bacon. Sold very well because it was just one of those things you had to try. Worst selling flavor was Cinnamon. We got a good deal on it for a Red, White and Blue 4th of July promotion. When we closed almost a year later, I threw out three cases. Praline was a good seller, but most people ate Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry.

Yeah they're great. Lots of flavors plus toppings like chocolate, Oreos, gummy bears, fresh fruit, and more. They charge by weight and my thing was like $3 so not sure about the tightwad up there who said they are expensive

Their bourbon selection is usually pretty poor, IMO.

Saturday nights were great for the teenagers that would come in and spend $20 on a cup to impress their friends. Largest single one cup purchase we ever had was $39 on one cup at .45/ounce.

Everyone of them has a 15 year old sitting at the cash register playing on their cell phone. They then interact with you for less than a minute while a scale weighs your food, and the credit card machine accepts payment.
The best part is the tip jar. I literally served my own yogurt and scooped my own toppings. Are people really that gullible?
