I posted this on the food board, but the OB has more people that build stuff. I have a few questions, what did you use for insulation between the metal and wood box? Do you just set the metal box inside the wooden box?

Mine's all aluminum inside and out but I'm interested in building a new one so I'm going to follow this thread. Good luck!

Build the wooden box then line the inside with roof flashing. Have the metal box lid made.

Built a couple. Mine aren't pretty but they work. 1 sheet of plywood for the bottom and sides. Handles. Steel pan for the top. Line it with heavy duty aluminum foil and use some disposable aluminum roasting pans to catch the drippings on the bottom. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures...

It'll cook a 40# pig head on and a 55-60# pig head off. I have plans for it if you'd like but you'll have to bump this thread tomorrow for me to remember.

It like a huge Dutch oven. Coals/wood fire on top.

You set down right der and we'll show dat der auburn boy hows to do it.

In an honesty, it's a huge Dutch oven.

Only instead of cast iron, you can make an out of anything. Hell a hole in the ground works damned well if the dirt smells good.

I've already built the metal box. So are y'all saying nothing goes between the metal box and wood exterior?

Holy shite I was going about my day thinking I'm gonna have a nice weekend. Take the baby to the boat show, drink some beer and grill some steaks. Now I gotta build something that I didn't know I needed .

I'll bump for plans tomorrow.
