I'm not as excited as most are about this pickup. I think TTsTowel has more of a handle of reality than most everyone else in this thread.

He's a long, tall, rangy CB but he's also 30, penalty prone, & injury/suspension prone. Meh.

yeah browner is good but not great and is more of a system CB. he's also slow (so age is a huge worry) and a major suspension risk

it all depends on salary

Exactly.

If he made the transition to safety, more so an in the box safety, I think the pick-up would be awesome.

If you would have asked me at the end of the year if a player like Browner would ever be on this defense I would have laughed myself to death.

This is a massive upgrade.

This. He's better than everyone not named Keenan Lewis and this is what we needed. His speciality is jamming WRs at the line of scrimmage and disrupting the jump. Short/intermediate routes are all his while Byrd flies on top.

so youve completely given up that byrd could be a great contributor on this defense? based on that short span of time?

I think the pickup works very well in our division with Evans, Jackson, and Benjamin.

Still hope we land Williams too

yep...and paying him over $5M a yr is too much! he will certainly bring another element to our defense, but how much did @kennyvacarro help with that last season?

Byrd played 4 games dude

Browner is an upgrade, but he's going to be overpaid just like any of the other big FA CBs. Everyone is looking for 1

And? Byrd wasn't healthy at any point. We will see this year what he can bring to the table.

Signing Browner means they're probably confident in Byrd making a comeback.

that's reasonable, as long as the deal is only 3-4 years long (to absorb the signing bonus)

How did you not have the slightest bit of worry of gambling on someone with an injury?

If you look at this year and the top FA CB's last year and what they got I don't think this deal is out of bounds.

well the point would be moot if one of our 800 CBs drafted under this regime would have panned out

can't wait to draft another one this year
