Tiger Weekly and the Reveille are better than fricking 225 Magazine.

I know this is a popular opinion that would seem plausible based on the shitty winners every year, but it's not true.

Every year about 90% garbage.

I actually really enjoy all of those places

I don't think anyone is saying that those places are shite. Seems the biggest dig at 225 "awards" is that they basically list the places that advertise with them over everyone else - rather than have restaurants win on the merits.

What has been left off? Who has been slighted?
I haven't seen the current list so I won't judge, but this feels like "225" judgement.

it will be the same places for the same categories that it is every year. and whichever one has the most ads in 225 will be the winner. shocker

I really don't think this is true. Dempsey's won best gumbo last year (if I remember correctly) and we didn't spend a dime advertising with them in 2014.

And they got another nomination from me this year.

It's not based on advertising dollars spent... but it's a popular vote, so obviously advertising within the magazine is going to generate some bias.

This.
255 has been accused of the advertising thing for a few years now, and they've been pretty firm in letting people know that isn't the case.
That said, just like most "top" lists, it goes by the general population. And well.. the general population doesn't choose so well
