Yes I'm all for doubling, tripling, quadrupling, whatever it takes to improve the LBs. And I mean actual LBs with cover skills, not pass rush "LBs" though if we are taking three or four we can take one like that.

And we should absolutely draft a guard in the first three rounds.

This is why I want to trade down if the top 12 go somewhat as expected. I really like the Junior/Jordan duo and they've been very durable, so I'm not big on drafting a DE/OLB at 13 unless we're VERY confident that they'll be studs or have some coverage ability at LB (Beasley?). No ILB OLB is worth taking at 13. It looks almost certain that we sign a solid CB in FA, so Waynes is a bit meh.

And with the likely relatively underwhelming talent/bad fits at 13, the late first and early second will be loaded with guys worthy of that pick range and fit needs. Between picks 25-50, you've got Collins, Kouandijio, and Cam Erving at guard. Kendricks, Perryman, McKinney, and Shaq at ILB. At least one of those guys could very well be available in the late second. It just feels like 25-50 is that big value range for us, and 4 picks in that area could fill 3 or our biggest needs while still giving us a chance to add Colston's replacement or a really good backup OT.

Oh yeah definitely look for a LEFT tackle in the 4th or 5th.

Why sad about that? I just don't think it's wise to invest too high of a pick this year on a tackle with both too many other needs and Strief/Armstead being a great duo. Next year I'm all for taking a tackle higher. And we need guard way more than tackle so the early round pick must be on that.

If there is a guy that can play both that's cool too but they are usually RT types.

Wheeler and Ellerbe. I know Wheeler caused trouble in the locker room. Don't know anything about Ellerbe.

ETA: I would have had no problem using a 4th on a solid, versatile OT.

Carl Nicks and Jahri Evans (saints standard bearers at guard) were both college OTs

And they were also both found in the 4th round, so yeah whatever. Doubt we see a 1st round pick there

Oh right.

Don't mind me. Three kids plus serious lack of sleep and looking at this stuff all day for a week has me just a wee bit out of it.

I meant draft a tackle to play tackle. I'm all for taking a tackle to play guard if they think he can. It's even better as they can kick out to RT if needed.

Yep, I agree. I would love to see scherff or Collins in round 1 for the above reason, but Im doubting it happens now. Will be interesting to see what happens with Grubbs and Evans in the coming weeks

As much depth as there is in this years draft around the WR position surely we take one in the first 3-4 rounds right?

Unless we sign Dewayne Bowe (meh) I would think we would draft a legit one to replace Colston next year. Or just as another weapon

Lester, I've been talking about Gurley/Gordon at 31 just because they would be hard to pass on. We are hitting the rb market pretty hard though. It doesn't make a lot of sense from a needs perspective, but Payton can really use both in the passing game to go along with elite running ability. Either could overtake Ingram in a short period of time.

Until the guards are dealt with its impossible to know.
So as Evans and Grubbs are still on team as of today...

1. Ray OLB
1. McKinney ILB
2. Anthony ILB

Put these guys with Parys Humber and Hawthorn and get us something other than the worst LB corp in the league.

Build the OL and front 7. You can win with avg WRs/TEs/RBs as long as you're solid up front. I didn't like the Cooks pick last year (not that he's a bad player, but you had a guy on the roster that could do most of the same things in Stills) and I wouldn't like a WR/TE pick in the first round this year.

The Saints still have the most important piece in place, an All Pro QB. Build the rest of the team from the inside out

Even if both Evans and Grubbs stay we should absolutely still draft a guard (or tackle/guard) within the first three rounds. Both are in their 30s and cost a ton. Plus if we draft one (and hit) we can cut Evans without worry.

It's a need regardless of whether or not both Evans and Grubbs stay.

But I'm all for taking 3 straight LBs and using our third on a guard.

I am with you Thrill, trade back.

As of this moment, Saints have too many holes to fill. I would prefer to trade back, and with the additional 2nd/3rd round pick, pick up Petty. I like the Tulane kid, but if he still has not surpassed McCown yet, then I don't think he is the guy.

Needs:
G-can be filled with a potential starter in 2nd
CB-not sure there are any "can't miss" guys this year. Good by not great year for cb's in the draft.
LB-may be toughest position for a rookie to have an impact. But the Saints need it. Are there any worth #13 this year?

Trade Back.

My 2 cents

I think we need to stay away from Shane Ray. He is just raw Junior Galatee imo. We don't have the time to work with Ray, all indicates that he has a good pass rush abilites but raw at tackling and coverage.

Rather have a impact player at 13. A la Shaq Thompson. He can kick out to OLB and push Parys Harlson for playing time. He can tackle and cover anyone in the league at TE and RB.
