Former NBA executive Tom Penn thinks Russell Westbrook's recent hot streak could have the Thunder thinking about trading Kevin Durant. Espousing a theory that would have been laughed at just six months ago, Penn thinks Thunder general manager Sam Presti will look to trade Durant if he doesn't a commitment that Durant will re-sign with Oklahoma City when he becomes a free agent after the 2015-16 season. While we have a long way to go before anything happens, Westbrook's otherworldly play as of late makes this an option that Presti at least has to consider if Durant won't commit to staying with the Thunder.

If he doesn't extend long-tern I think they have to. Can't let a guy that talented leave for nothing. How much legs does that whole Under Armor/Washington thing have?

He just re-signed with Nike last year I think, so that's a non-factor IMO.

The only thing that would concern me us how hard Westbrook plays. Will his body hold up for 5-7 more years at this level?

Why wouldnt they? Lakers would grossly over pay with picks and players.

Would be a smart move by OKC, durant is getting older and the injuries are becoming frequent.

Who can the Lakers send that would = Durant, or even be close?

Lakers can send Lottery picks. Hell Lakers have a chance to win the Lottery this year.

OKC could end up getting rid of Durant and then maybe getting a top 1-5 pick in a good draft. They would also get a rookie with a rookie 3 year deal.

hypothetically, lets say he's dealt to Lakers. those picks will be in the top15, all of those 1st rounders. Kobe is close to being done, and they have very little on the roster. So you could be drafting the back ups and replacements for down the road.

No they haven't had the assets to chase guys like Dragic, let alone a guy like Durant

Would you trade Lebron for Lottery picks?

I get Durant has been injured and some of you may have forgotten just how good he is, but you don't trade a guy like KD for lottery picks.

Trading Harden and KD for lottery picks would be all kinds of LOL.

Only thing is if they dont move him he becomes a FA and walks and they get nothing. If they get a lottery pick they can get a young player for cheap For 3 years.

Would have nothing to do with this

Durant if he doesn't a commitment that Durant will re-sign with Oklahoma City when he becomes a free agent after the 2015-16 season.

and everything to do with this.

Westbrook will never ever win a title without Durant
