Watching LSU-Miami 1988
Posted by LATIGERFAN on 3/9/15 at 11:25 pm03
Everybody's all-American Tommy Hodson with his 51% completion percentage, 11tds and 10 int's. Fans booing when he misses an open wide receiver and ESPN announcer saying maybe those boos are justified cause of how he missed him. Those stats would be dogged out today and booing would be met with righteous disdain. How times have changed.

Game was played in a squall with about 30 MPH wind. Tigers won the toss and elected to received. Miami took the wind. Miami kicked off into the stands. Hodson couldn't get the ball to the 30 yard line against the wind. Tigers punt 15 yards. Hurcs drive quick 35 to score with the wind. Repeat two more times and Tigers down 21-0 in first quarter and coasted to win. Tigers should have taken the wind on the coin toss.

First, Miami (OH), then the Canes. Got tired of seeing Miami in TS as a student.

Stayed the whole game WITH a raincoat and rain in my face coming down sideways. With about 5 minutes left in the game and the Tigers losing by 40 points or so, my brother turns to me and says, "Are we stupid or WHAT?!!!" Answer was yes!

I was there and was pissed my family made me leave at halftime. I was the only one that wanted to stay. That was the hardest rain I ever remembered watching a game.

I was there - sat in the Purple Section - protected from the rain, right? Rain came in sideways - drenched for the whole game.

In a post game interview, Ruffin Rodrigue Jr. stated,if I remember correctly, something along the lines that LSU proved to Miami it was the better team. Response in the paper was like, WTF! Did he just say what I thought he said. Ruffin was just being his comical self.

I was there in 88’ for the entire game. Watched our tigers lose 44-3. For me this game signified the beginning of a downward spiral that many on this board have never experience.
I was also at the Peach Bowl in 05’watching our tigers return the favor to Miami 40-3 sending them into a downward spiral. Going into the Peach Bowl the 88’ game was on my mind.
When it was all over those horrible memories were happily replaced…

I was a sophomore in the student section. I was sick with a cold before the game. Felt like death by the 4th quarter. I remember Steve Walsh carving us up.

Stayed entire game because my dad had 50 yard line seats and he wasn't leaving.
The most rain I have ever sat through ever in Tiger Stadium and Miami was throwing it around like it was a balmy fall afternoon in perfect conditions.

Yeah, absolute monsoon was coming down while playing the juggernaut that Miami was in the 80's....and Hodson was still a Heisman possibility on LSU teams that didn't have the talent they do today.
