my girlfriend is looking at getting one for her little boy (3 yrs). She keeps looking at the ones on Craigslist but I can't help but think that they all look half rotted and dilapidated.

The ones on Kmart, walmart, and Amazon seem to be made out of cedar. I don't think that'll last very long in east Alabama with as hot as it gets here. Any suggestions?

Build your own with treated lumber, will last much longer than those crap kits they sell at Sam's and lowe's etc.

We had one of the smaller ones when my step son turned 3 and it lasted him till 10. Got it from toys r us. Just replaced it last year with a bigger set. They are a bitch to put together

I built my own w plans off the Internet. It is so solid, I've had 3 adults swinging on it at the same time. 1000 times better than any big box kit and it cost less to build.

I recommend this. There are many different styles & footprints to choose from that best suit your needs, and you can add on to it. They're practically indestructible. They set it up for you as well.
