I'm hearing 2 different answers from local HVAC guys and despite the hate responses from stout, TH03 and others, I would like to hear your thoughts.
TIA
TIA

Did you just build a new house or something?
Posted on 3/9/15 at 4:19 pm to tgrbaitn08
I heard CAD built a house. He's so frickin cool
Posted on 3/9/15 at 4:19 pm to tgrbaitn08
From what I've read, the OT actually built his new house.

No hate but rather a serious question, why didn't you do all of this research before buying the house?

Did he already buy the range?

Depending on the length of the run, there really shouldn't be a big cost differential. If I had a doubt, I would go with the 1/2".

no hate, but the house isn't new and there are only about 4,000 different things i'm having to sort out.
i guess i'm an idiot for not knowing the difference in 3/8 vs 1/2 pipe.
apparently the HVAC guys dont agree either which is why i'm asking here.

The answer will be found in the Installation Manual for the range and not amongst your arguing HVAC guys.
Make damn sure you get it right or trouble will ensue. Be damn sure to look it up but I think the 1/2" is for commercial ranges and the smaller is for residential. But this is NOT my area of expertise so don't subpoena Chicken for my info if your house burns down based on this advice.
Google that shite with the quickness before you let the dueling HVAC idiots ruin your stuff.

Consider the worst case that all burners are on HIGH.

if by 'fixer upper' you mean an older house with lots of things that need updating..then yes.

Lots of variables here. Btus? Type of pipe? Length of run? There really is no standard answer. I would call a plumber

Did you get a good deal?
thats a loaded question
we're in a great area with lots of acerage and at closing it appraised for 20k more than we paid so i guess so.

i'm really not trying to be a pest..just trying to juggle a job, 2 houses (havent sold the old one yet) and 4 kids and cant physically comb through everything in this house that needs attention.
i got chimney sweeps and septic cleanings, and pool liners to replace and painting and propane companies to fill the tank and handyman work and a kitchen remodel and i've swapped about 8 light fixtures so far, 6 can lights, cleaned out the gutters, ordered new ceiling tiles & 2 new diffusers for my son's basement room and put in new downspouts on the front gutters.
now i'm hearing if we need a new H20 tank we should get it now because in a couple months government regulations might require us to go with a hybrid or tankless
so i'm treading water here and using/abusing/annoying the OT since y'all are brutally honest.
eta and shopping for furniture and appliances at the same time.

specs on range are 2 15k btu burners & 2 12k so the total is 54k btu if i'm running all 4 at once at their maximum setting (which i cant imagine i'd ever do)
length is..hmm..probably a couple hundred feet as a total rough estimate.
i have 2 more HVAC guys coming by tomorrow so we'll see if i keep getting different answers.
