Released their first song from their new album "Wilder Mind". Sounds like a U2-Coldplay love child

Pretty generic soft rock jam.

I didn't think I could like them less. I was wrong.

I'm always surprised how much hate Mumford gets. They get bashed on this board more than Taylor Swift. A reminder that musical taste is quite subjective I suppose.

They're actually very good. Marcus Mumford is also very respected individually in the industry as a writer and producer.

Big fan of Mumford, but it appears they are going in a different direction. In a shitty pop rock direction. Terrible it is.

I'm a huge fan but it seems like they're trying to conform, with that being said, I really dislike this song.

I like Mumford, but agree in disliking this song. A lame soft rock ballad? This song seems to lack any passion.

I like Marcus Mumford in the New Basement Tapes project. The thing that annoyed me about Mumford and Sons was them basically putting out two albums back to back to sounded the exact same.

I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I do wonder how many of the folks here bashing them enjoyed their first album. It was, and still is, very good.

Me too. I admit that Mumford got stale for me, but whenever I hear a song on the radio, it's obvious they're very good musicians. They're also not pretentious about it despite the nature of their music, so I don't get the hate either.

I guess, but you can say this about most bands that don't switch genres between albums. It just so happens their sound, at the outset, was really distinctive. Which ups the "it sounds the same" factor.

It's a solid U2-style anthem. Ditching folk rock entirely is really risky, though. They're going to lose a lot of fans.
