If you are a fan of city building sims, this game looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Beautiful graphics and it looks like the devs put a lot of thought into what the community has been vocal about wanting in the game. I LOVE the UI.

quote:

Cities: Skylines focuses on city-building simulation through urban planning. Players control zoning, road placement, taxation, public services, and public transportation of an area. Gameplay is open-ended, touted as "endless sandbox gameplay across massive maps." Player-determined civic policies can affect the development of the entire city or individual districts thereof.

Roads can be built straight or free-form and the grid used for zoning adapts to road shape; cities need not follow a grid plan. Roads of varying widths (up to major freeways) accommodate different traffic volumes, and variant road types (for example roads lined with trees) offer reduced noise pollution or increased property values in the surrounding area at an increased cost to the player.

Modding, via the addition of user-generated content such as buildings or vehicles, is to be supported in Skylines; the creation of an active content-generating community is an explicit design goal. This content will be available for download from the Steam Workshop.

I have wanted this game for a while, however I did read an article on Kotaku to curb your enthusiasm. They said it is likely to be great but based on previous stuff the company has made, it may not be everything we want.

Based on what?
The studio that makes this game focuses solely on city builders, but is only a 9-13 person crew. They have already announced plans for FREE dlc/additional content via patches, as well as the anticipation of continued support and content via expansions. On top of that, the game is being distributed by Paradox, a company that provides GREAT support and content in its games. Just look at how well supported games like EU4 and CK2 are.

This game seems like a no brainer to anyone whose a fan of city builders.

City builders got way to micro managing for my taste long ago, unless this is different than that I will not be buying.

Play simcity 2013 then.

The reason why that game was hated by fans was there wasn't enough micromanaging...(among other things).

I like the micromanaging part of city builders as long as it's not clunky.

This is a game that could probably help me break my Kerbal addiction...and that's saying something.
