We are always arguing over who's #1. The Wire, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, etc. I expect those three would make most lists (including my own). What are your Top 5 though, all time?

For me it's:
Sopranos
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
Lost
The Wire

Are you going to rate True Detective per season?

I guess Mad Men is a bad choice to put on my list because it osnt over yet. But I've thought the world of it's far and it's nearly over.

I LOVED True Detective but we are only one season in!

The Wire #1 by a landslide.

The only on your list I've seen is Breaking Bad, and having seen every episode of both BB is nowhere close. BB is severely overrated IMO

Having just finished rewatching The Wire, I disagree. I love The Wire, I own it but it is not as good as Breaking Bad IMO. I won't sit here and say its nowhere close. The direction, the writing, the pacing, and especially the acting are all better on Breaking Bad.

The Wire is expertly crafted and The most realistic seeming show I've ever seen (except for Season 5). It had moments of sadness and despair that I'll never forget. Hilarious to boot.

Pure entertainment, though, it is not. Breaking Bad was probably the most fun I've ever had watching a show, and Tbe Sopranos is a great mix of those two elements.

The Sopranos: another show that I own and recently rewatched. It works best as a tribute to James Gandolfini and a comedy. It is not convincing drama IMO. I think David Chase must hate women or something seeing as The Sopranos has the weakest female characters I can think of at the moment . I feel like too that a lot of stones are left unturned. I don't think The Sopranos would be a top 5 for me. Top 5 TV characters of all time, Tony Soprano would be a definite top three for me.

ETA: I was mostly joking about the hating women thing, Meadow was a pretty strong character.

They harped on the old school theme pretty hard as far as women were concerned.

Drama though? I can remember scenes Iike Tony going to bed with the AK and the infamous Adrianna scene. There were some really tense moments. On a rewatch they don't come off as heavy, but how could they?

The comedy, though, all time great shite. The Christopher intervention and Pine Barrens episode being
My faves.

How much does Deadwoods abrupt end hurt it? I'm about to begin it this week regardless, but want to be prepared.

I disagree. Bryan Cranston is amazing. But every actor on The Wire is perfect in their role. They hired a bunch of unknown character actors for a reason. The Wire is a show you can get lost in and forget it isn't real. Breaking Bad is like a live action cartoon and the characters are like exaggerated caricatures.
