Video games won't really affect your child, you as a parent can do more damage/help than any video game can. That being said, GTA V has some fricked up shite in it (Trevor's intro) that an 8 year old really shouldn't be seeing imo. Go look at some clips of it on YouTube and make the decision for yourself.

I thought the torture scene was fricked up, I couldn't imagine seeing it when I was 8.

Yeah, but shite looks a lot more realistic now. I was playing Mortal Kombat when I was like 7, but frick if I would let a 7 year old play a current Mortal Kombat game.

Seriously. Mortal Kombat on the SNES had just blotches on the screen that looked like blood. The new Mortal Kombat has you disemboweling people and cutting their faces off so you can see their brain. Using the "I played GTA 1 and I was fine" argument doesn't help. Games are becoming hyper realistic and GTA V is one of them.
I personally wouldn't let my kid play it until he got a job and could pay for it himself.

Honestly, I'd go with 14. Yeah, they know about curse words and killing, but I don't think most people under 14 know of the most fricked up things in GTA before they turn that age.

Yeah but the game wasn't as realistic as GTA V is. Plus GTA V has full frontal nudity

Man, you can't say that Vice City and San Andreas were as realistic as GTA V is.
