I do not think the splitters really caused the issue. It was the massive amount of sliders and the amount of torque he puts into pitch. Darvish throws every pitch like it is his last.

Every Japanese pitcher has faded after 2-3 years. Why JD thought Darvish would be different simply shows his inability to run a team. (That and his acquisitions of Choo and Fielder)

Oh and I've heard it was torn ligaments, not a sprain.
