Football: the Coming Paradigm Shift?

The Chavis era is over. It was a grand experiment which attained, eh – modest results all things considered. After the ’08 turnover and Malleveto debacle, Les changed directions. It’s what we’ve seen since – conservative O, controlled D, superior ST’s. I’ll call it the “GoRu” after Gordy Rush who first suggested (as far as I know) that Les could take this approach and win 80% of the games which would be enough to give him job security.
Chavis was a perfect fit for GoRu. I would love to know what ‘went-down’ with Chavis leaving as well as the DC search. For now, I’m in the dark. That said, the presence of O and Steele on the D side signal that we’ll play more aggressively on D than under Chavis. And in turn, I think our O will be more aggressive (not to be understood as air-raid, spread, etc but more in terms of throwing early in the game, throwing on 1st down, throwing over the middle of the field, throwing to the TE
In summary, I think we’ll see game plans more akin to Les’s earlier years than those of the Chavis;s era.
It was a great night for Tigers – baseball win, women’s hoop win, gymnastics win, softball win.

I think LSU is becoming more aggressive, it just requires th right personnel. CCC a did it with amazing talent in '13, but failed when we had the youngest offense ever essentially. Defensively, you have to be aggressive to combat the spread/HUNH - you have to win early downs and play aggressively or they'll pick you apart.
I'll say this, I'm not pleased with the Steele hire - but I withold my judgement till after at least a year. That being said, it'll either be a genius hire that will bring LSU a championship or yield a clean house.

I wouldn't say superior STs.
Punting has been solid but the return game is getting weak, kick coverage has been bad and FGs have become an issue again.

Modest results on D? - That's an interesting deduction coming out of a year when LSU had the number one defense. Don't get caught in the trap of defining an era or a season on one or two drives. I defenses haven't necessarily been the best, but certainly better than modest.
The offense will seem more aggressive because we will have more experienced receivers and a more experienced and mature QB taking snaps, (regardless of who the starter is). In additions. the Oline and RBs will help in opening the passing game. Based on how the year ended (4-6 passes to the TE in the ND game) I think we'll see more middle of the field passes. Personally, I would love to see LSU be able to run a screen pass successfully.

Modest results
Missouri, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia had better defenses in 2014.

Yea LSU had the #1 ranked D in the SEC statistically maybe, but anyone who watched MSST, AU, or ND games doesn't really feel to warm and fuzzy inside about that ranking
