So if you receive a lot of notifications or map a long run, expect to charge it often

But it does have a low power mode that only tells time.

With only a few days to go until Apple's next big press event, where it's expected to reveal final pricing and availability details for the Apple Watch, we're hearing even more about how its first smartwatch will function. Sources tell 9to5Mac (which is typically accurate about early info like this) that the Apple Watch will get around 5 hours of battery life with heavy usage, and it should last you all day with typical handling. The site earlier reported that Apple was aiming for around 2.5 to 4 hours of power with significant usage. Just like your iPhone though, you should expect to charge it every night.

If true, they need to go back to the blueprints. I'm a Apple proponent, for the record.

Battery life is the one trend in college that has held up. Batteries just aren't able to meet our energy demands and improvements are only linear.

That's pretty much on par with an iPhone. I seriously wouldn't expect to use the watch as "heavily" as my phone.

Lithium battery technology us very limited. But there are peyote working in capacitor technology to replace lithium batteries. And the early results look incredibly impressive, from what I've read.

Well, I guess it's clear now why there have not been any major breakthroughs in battery technology.

I wish people would stop being pussies and start being open to nuclear energy. Low battery life would never be a problem again.

First release of an Apple product and it won't be great, shocker. They always do a lot of corrections on the second gen of a product line.

That said, I don't understand why I want a watch with tech like this on it. Can someone explain to me why I give a shite about checking emails or texts on a smaller screen than my phone?

And you know that 5 hours actually entails 2.5.

BC you don't have to pull your phone out of your pocket. That's efficient!!!!

ironically, every time a watch thread pops up on OTB, people bitch about wearing watches because they just check their phone for the time.

Why can't they develop small scale solar type cells to help supplement the heavy use of conventional battery cells for these devices? Would it increase the size significantly? Something similar to what they do with calculators but tailored to smartphones and strictly as supplemental power source. It would seem to be a good idea provided it wouldn't bulk up the phone/watch

I am curious as to what would define "heavy use" on an the Apple Watch. We all know what "heavy use" on a phone means. Heavy use on a phone means constant GPS usage and/or anything that requires all of those pixels on the screen to be firing.

If the Apple Watch sleeps when doing nothing and only fires up when the face is touched or a notification comes in, 5 hours of active use seems like it would more than get through the day.
