With the official unveiling coming on Monday, now would be a good time to see what everyone thinks. I've seen some speculate the gold Edition will be upwards of $20,000. I just can't see it being THAT high, but I don't know enough about the market to guess if it should be priced as a Veblen good.

So they've already said that the Sport will start at $349.

I'm going to guess the stainless steel Watch will start at $549 and the Edition will be $4999.

gold will be $1450. i dont think apple is dumb enough to think people will buy a $5000 watch that will be outdated in 2-3 years.

If you've kept up with anything, you'll know this is wayyyyy too low. The amount of gold they're using in the Edition adds up to way more than that amount. I would be very surprised if it was less than $2,500, and then again not surprised if it was more than twice that price.

I'm interested in seeing exactly what you can do with the watch once its out, and how much you can personalize the sport.

I'm pretty sure the watch's innards will be upgradeable. I would be very shocked if they are not.

Watches and fashion are weird though. I mean, isn't a mechanical wristwatch already outdated with everyone having cell phones that keep perfect time?

Also, I don't think they want the Edition to be a mass market product. Gotta make it exclusive, desirable some how.

And I would just like to add that calling the gold version simply "Edition" is pretty silly.

I agree, along with calling the whole product family Apple Watch.

It's like they did that just because the whole world was expecting iWatch.

At first the i in iMac stood for internet, but then it didn't make any sense for iPod, so they apparently expanded it to mean other things like individual, inspire, inform, instruct... But then individual didn't make any sense because millions of people had the same exact iPhone, so to me the i just began to mean any Apple product.

So then the perfect product comes along to make the i stand for individual again, and Apple says "frick you and i".

iWatch would have been worse IMO, but Apple Watch is only slightly better.

I know people will pay it. I'm an apple guy myself.

But that price point, for me, is crazy. I can buy an iPad for less, and all so I don't have to take my iPhone out of my pocket?

I'd much rather spend $5k on a nice Tag or Omega than a gold iWatch that I have to charge every couple of hours.

So say one reason is Swatch has trademarked iSwatch and pitched a fit and threatened to sue.

Not that Apple is afraid of litigation. They also worried Google would screw em and redirect iWatch to did you mean iSwatch ?

Also about brand recognition. People would say let's go to the iPod store to buy an iTouch. I think they want people saying and knowing Apple.

I guess that's a good reason.

A search for iWatch brings up all Apple Watch stuff right now. It even has an info card for it. But of course Google has the power to screw anybody over anything at any time.

My sister works for a company in Nashville that is a distributor for Apple products. She was telling me that they built a small, secured area where they will be storing the limited edition and one-off apple watches. Some valued over $10k.
