Yeah the chow chow on a hot dog was money.

I really like how they fry the oysters but they just added something that was different. It wasn't bad and I remember liking it just don't recall what it was, maybe its chow chow but I recall it being sweet.

TCO- must have changed it up since my visit b/c they weren't using that bread. Good to hear and makes sense now why a NOLA transplant told me it was legit.

Actually ended up having a crawfish poboy from there for lunch...it was okay. Crawfish were real tough.

It's called The Cajun Stop now and this is my vote for best poboy in Houston. Actually, my favorite cajun food near downtown not just poboys.

the Calliope I referenced is in the SW part of town (West Bellfort @ Fondren), not near downtown. From the website it appears to be related to another shop in Hattiesburg, MS (Peter's Po-Boys)

Cajun Stop is the answer.

Not just po-boys, but best cajun in Houston. Pretty cheap too. I like their gumbo.

New Orleans doesn't even have the best poboy in Louisiana.

Agreed. Hell, Mabile's in LaPlace is better than anything in NOLA.

If a seafood po-boy will do, I've tried most around Houston and Jimmy G's in Greenspoint is BY FAR the best I've had. Granted, its Greenspoint and expensive but it's as close as I've come to NOLA. There's something about that right bread/ shrimp/ mayo/ ketchup/ hot sauce combination that just makes it right and you can make that happen there...

Where's the best place to get crawfish around here? The boot by my house is absurdly expensive ($8.50/pound). Also has anyone tried the crawfish and noodles place that was on DDD?

Not sure why people never realize that this place literally bills themselves at a "Tex-Cajun" hybrid, or something like that.

Go to Panera Bread, get a french baquette, go home and make a po-boy. That's your best bet.

HEB has a decent baquette bread as well.

Texas Borders in Katy used to bring in Leidenheimer French Bread. However, I wasn't a fan of the stuff they put on the bread.

I don't think Cajun Stop does that good with po boys, but the rest of their food is probably the best Cajun you will find in Houston. It's also a hole in the wall in the ghetto, so that's a nice NOLA-like quality.

And the lady who runs the place, Lisa, is very, very good on the eyes.

To be honest, I've found fiesta Markets and HEB's have the best prices. HEB is the best of those two but they are usually a good bit more per pound.

I hear there are better crawfish available around town but I just don't feel the need to drive out of my way for a marginally better product.

While I've done it quite a few times now, I still can't get used to walking through a supermarket with a couple sacks of crawfish in the cart. It just feels wrong...
