Wesley Matthews is out for the season with a torn left Achilles tendon, the Blazers announced after their 94-75 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.

He injured the Achilles in the third quarter on a fast break when he tried to push off the foot. He instantly fell to the ground and stayed there, looking like he was in shock. He didn’t put any weight on the leg as he was helped off the court.

Pels related in multiple ways. First he was a preferred Gordon replacement of many, now he goes into Free Agency probably not able to play much next season. Secondly, one less starting SG on the market could make Gordon opting out more likely or create more potential trade destinations. For instance the Knicks supposedly had interest in Matthews.

Too bad about Matthews. He's a good player and this sucks for him and for Portland.

Not too sure this will hurt his $$$ too much or that he will miss most of next season. Recovery seems to be about 6 months. Kobe tore his in April and was back by November. Kobe is also insane tho.

The Pels probably need to look to move one of the 3 guards more than anything else this summer. A Gordon trade makes sense given that he will be an expiring and a new team can renounce him going into 2016 bonanza if necessary. Of course, Gordon has looked like the best of the guards since returning from injury.

Damn that sucks, I love Wes Matthews' game. On another note my fantasy team has gotten destroyed by injuries recently. I've lost Chris Bosh and Wes Matthews in the past few weeks, and not to mention that Jrue is just wasting away on my IR.

Achilles recovery timelines are 6-9 months, he should be back by early next December, only missing about a month of next season. This does definitely hurt his value, though. Really not sure what expect, he was looking like a lock for 10+ mil, but I don't know if anyone will take that gamble now.
