Everyone in this thread seems very well-adjusted, but I know a lot of people who simply will not eat alone. Just think it's a harrowing thing. One person will not even go in the restaurant and sit at a table waiting for someone -- will sit in the car until her lunch/dinner partners arrive. I just don't get it. Like most of you posting, I have no problem whatsoever eating alone, and like getting away at lunch and resting the brain. It can be very pleasant.

I did once have a hostess ask me what she could do for me when I presented to a restaurant alone at lunch. I told her I wanted to eat. While seating me, she asked "what brings you to xxx alone today?" I was like "UM, the need for lunch???" I found that surpassing odd.

I love eating lunch alone during the work week. I am never alone at home or at the office so it feels good to shut down the engines and just not think about anything for an hour.

I eat alone all the time. If it's dinner, I'll just sit at the bar. Seems less awkward. Lunch, I don't go anywhere fancy but don't have a problem sitting alone at all.

I see you waited to put your 1st post in a "well-adjusted folk" thread.

That's a good move.

I didn't really start dining out alone until I was over the age of 21. I guess I never thought about it until I started drinking with most meals.

Now, if someone isn't there yet, I go in and get started on my first drink

Sometimes if I'm ordering out for dinner, I'll go in to order instead of calling ahead so I can relax and having a drink while they prepare the food.

I'll eat lunch alone from time to time.. It's no big deal.. Typically just find a spot with a decent bar and pull up a chair and grad some food

I eat alone everyday. I would love to share good conversation with a nice lady but I have not had much luck meeting single 40 yr old women.

I like: Piccadilly ; BrewBachers: Jason's Deli: Subway ; and Chili's .

I usually watch sports or read while I am eating my meal.

I grab lunch alone all the time. I work between offices and will stop. But I've never eaten somewhere with a waiter. Always a sandwich shop, or a deli type place.
