I would absolutely do it. I'd do it with 10 shots.

For some reason, I've probably shot a couple thousand half court shots in my life. I used to love practicing it.

This thread is out of control. Started as a troll thread, now it's everyone can make 10 of 20 half courts. Ha.

Of course, I sent this thread on a tangent.

If you had the chance to make one half court shot out of twenty attempts and win $20 million dollars or miss all 20 and spend 2 years in prison, would you do it? What says the MSB?

I could hit one out of twenty. I'd do it.

Its VERY easy to say you would on here but if you had to shoot on a court with 20 million in a pile of cash on one side and a prison with a bunch of cops ready to pull you in on the other I doubt anyone would do it. Unless you were depressed and almost suicidal why would you chance that?

Because 20 mill and you think you can do it.

Like other people have said, hitting half court shots really isn't that tough. Step and a half, elbow straight, and vlade it in.

Probably not, mostly because I am not confident in my ability to make one.

Even if you shot 0.1% (1 in 1000) from half court, the probability that you would make at least 1 is about 2% (1.98% to be more precise). So the expected value of the prize, even being such a poor shooter, is $396,222. Obviously going to jail would incur various financial, emotional, and social losses, but it would be hard to pass up.

i worked at a sports camp for a few summers and lunch was inside a gym. almost every day the counselors played halfcourt knockout (gotcha or whatever you grew up calling it) in front of the kids and it got to the point where missing a couple in a row pretty much meant you were out. this was a group of decent high school level athletes, but nothing crazy. i know that's just another anecdotal worthless story, but i really dont feel that this is all that tough in theory. i still think i would be scared shitless though if im cold for the first 10 shots.

I've participated in this half court contest multiple times before which is why I said I felt confident in hitting one out of five. Maybe I wouldn't, but there were a lot of guys, including myself, that probably came close to making half court shots about 15-20% of the time. One out of 20 seems pretty easy, but with that much on the line I'm sure nerves would be at an all time high and the shot would be so much tougher.

NBA players ave made 1.3% of their half court shots. They would have a 26% chance of making one with 20 tries. The average person would not have that high of a chance.

74% chance of going to prison for 20 years, basically ending your life.

I don't get how people are saying they would make it pretty easily in 20 shots. I've played basketball for a long time and am considered the stereotypical white three point specialist and I'm not sure I could make one. Have you people tried hitting a 1/2 court shot before? Even for experienced players it is a long shot to make one.

I join you in this observation. But, neither of us should forget that we are dealing with the Rant population in response to the hypo. This is the same collection of folks who are better coaches than the ones LSU has, better players than the ones LSU plays, and better athletes overall than anyone else on this board.

Well I would have zero defense in front of me, and am shooting from right at the middle of the half court line, instead of all over like they are. Shooting them in repetition also helps tremendously. The possibility of prison is also only two years, and that would be worth the risk of being set for the rest of my life if I thought I could hit 1 out of 20 at least 9 out of 10 times I did it, and I think I could do that pretty regularly (especially if I could practice all I wanted).
