Mickey Martin Simmons Blakeney Quarterman

Barring something unforeseen, Hornsby will retain his starting job. A senior who leads the team in hustle and three-point shooting needs to start. I do think Blakeney is good enough to start, just don't see anyone supplanting Mr. Hustle. None of the starters should play more than 27 minutes per game next year if the JM's return as they should.

correct but Martin will. Martin will be borderline top 15.

Show me where he is projected at ~15. I've looked at a bunch of draft projections and he seems to be 2nd or bottom 1st at best. The money delta between #15 & #40 is pretty significant. Anyone who is guaranteeing him as a 1st round pick is simply full of shite. If he's not 98% sure that he gets a guaranteed contract, he should think hard about it.

Mickey seems to have fallen off at the worst time. His hype was based on his shot blocking ability but his offensive game needs significant work. How often do you see him getting offensive rebounds and finishing with a dunk over a 6'10" player? He doesn't dominate SEC players in the paint so why in the world would anyone expect him to flourish against NBA bigs. He would be making a bigger mistake in leaving but I hear that he's more likely than Martin. That's crazy.

Averages 16.6 pts and 9.0 rebs

While averaging 36 minutes a game. 16 points is HARDLY exceptional. He's definitely rebounding better than last year, but with Mickey altering so many shots underneath he gets a lot of easy rebounds. But again, if he plays a normal 30-32 minutes he might be averaging 14 and 7. Hardly impressive or exceptional.

Our player's stats are so skewed because of the minutes they are forced to play.

I don't know these kids situations in life so I cannot comment. Plus no doubt family and friends may not have their best interests in mind. They both can no doubt make more money next year than the far majority on this board including me. As an LSU fan obviously I would love for both to come back and be happy if one did. I'm not counting on either at this point, but who knows.

I mean leading scorer in college basketball avg 22 a game and if look at list of top 40 scorers they all but a few avg 36mmp.
alot of top players avg lots of minutes. What makes lsu diff is our role players avg tons of minutes. But M&M arent avg more than any other top players so its not skewes unless everyones is

Most other teams actually rotate their players and mickey was seen wearing a boot at one point in the season

Martin is likely gone

Out of the two, he is the one that can actually increase his stock the most by coming back.

Martin can't. He won't play with his back to the basket in the NBA and won't be able to really develope the perimeter game needed at the next level while at LSU.

But, if he lands in the D-League can try to learn it there. To me, it makes the most sense for martin to come back and mickey to leave, but I'm not predicting that.

they both need a lot of work on their offense.

I hope they both come back after working with coaches in off season.

They do play a lot of minutes for sure. But also, if we're saying they are run down from so many minutes, then technically they may be even more productive (per minute played) if they were fresher.

I agree with you. Martin has the size & athleticism to be an NBA 4. What he lacks is toughness. I'd guess that most teams have him on their draft boards as a "take" by the end of Rd2. If I was a GM, I'd take him before 45 just on his trade value alone. You really can't say that for Mickey.

Name something Martin does exceptionally. He can't defend the post, can't defend the wing. Can power through contact when he's aggressive and attacking the rim...which is 5 times a game. Average shooter. Not a great ball handler. What's his position in the NBA right now? Certainly can't play the 3, and certainly can't play the 4. There are glaring weaknesses with both spots

Bingo. There might be a lot to work with, but he is VERY MUCH an unfinished product. He could increase stock by coming back to LSU much, much, more than Mickey could.

Mickey is probably not going to be drafted. He'll play overseas if he leaves.

Correct.

Modern day players who think they can play pro ball don't really care about coming back to win a championship. And I can't blame them. They have a marketable skill and need to make maximize their earning potential.

If they come back next year, it's because they believe they'll make more money in the long run by coming back. Not because of some feel-good notion of wanting to win a championship for their beloved university.
