For a beater, just get a timex expedition analog. They don't look bad at all IMO and you can beat the living shite out of them.

My wife's Michael Kors is 3 years old. Still works fine and looks brand new.
The only watch I've ever liked was the rolex sub mariner that James Bond (Sean Connery/ Roger Moore) wore. Of course they are the price of a midsize sedan. MK, Tudor, and Invicta make good versions of the sub mariner face for $80-$1,000 depending on the brand. MK's are good watches for the price. Tudors are the most expensive, and last forever. But at that price I would get a Tag. Invicta is definitely the cheapest. They're good enough quality to last if you use it as a "dress" watch, but will get scratched the hell up if you wear it everyday.

Seiko SKX-007. $150.
(I know I post this damn thing in every "affordable watch" thread.)

Like most G-Shocks, I have no idea what all that thing does but it looks badass.

Seems to me like an automatic that cheap would be a peice of shite.
Maybe not though.

My girlfriend bought me a Michael Kors watch a year or so ago. While I hate the MK brand (which I thought she knew), it's actually a pretty clean looking watch for what it is. I do agree though, that you can probably get a similar looking and performing watch from Fossil at half the price, especially if you don't care about the brand name. Which as a guy, I'm guessing you probably don't.

Any idea if they make that 007 seiko with a rubber/silicone band?

I have one, replaced the engineer bracelet with one with larger links. For the money you can spend a little more and get the SRPxxx models which offer a better movement. I have one of those on the way...

RAF issue model. The $1300 gravity master GPS versions are also issued.

So apparently a J in the model number means it's made in Japan and a K means it's korean(and less expensive). The SKX007J is $2-300. Any idea how important this is?

I'd say "not very." They both have the Japanese movement, after all. It's one of those watch nerd things. The packaging of the J looks much nicer though.
