Is it weird for an adult to have a birthday party every year?

I have a friend (a guy) who turns 33 this weekend and he's having a birthday party. He has one every year. I'm not talking a crawfish boil or a BBQ. I mean he has a party, in the afternoon, complete with cake and people are expected to bring presents. He's been like this for the 10 years I've known him and his wife is the same way. It's usually a pot luck kind of affair.

I get having friends get together for an afternoon, but this seems like more than that. This isn't a "it's my birthday, come over and hang out" thing, it's a "Mike is turning 33!!" thing.

I'm not a huge birthday person, so maybe I just don't get it. Does this strike anyone else as odd?

Seems completely normal if it is a drinking sorta party. My wife always puts together a gathering of alcoholics of some sort for me. Granted I wouldn't do it myself. But I am anti-social......oh never mind....I just read past the first sentence of your post......Is there drinking at his parties?

It's only cool if he actually hosted with food and an open bar or something.

No, but he's a "miracle"child. His brother is 10 years older and his parents were in their late 40's when they had him. He lived at home until he was 30 (when he got married).

That sounds sort of strange. I've had friends and family come over to my house for my birthday in the past. I don't expect gifts or anything like that. I usually put something on the grill, have some drinks, and visit.

I'm not even to my mid-20s yet and all we do is go out to eat somewhere. I can't imagine being mid-30s and having an actual birthday party every year.

Ya man, that's fricking weird. I don't expect any thing to happen on my birthday, but I do appreciate being called up to go out, or having a bbq or something where I cook for every body. Just an excuse to get together.

This shite is just

Turn 30 in May.

Go over
Say happy bday
Eat his food
Drink his beer
Harass the women
Leave

Eta: Actually bring a couple of tall boys so you don't look like a broke dick when you start drinking his beer

The weird part is him expecting presents each year. Nothing wrong with getting together with friends and cake though.

Seriously....you should secretly hire a clown or a Frozen character or balloon artist to crash the party. Make them think the birthday person is actually a kid.

"So who is the birthday boy?!!!"
