Whoa whoa what's the Pels record in games Davis has missed?

I know they were just 5-1 so you can't really say if Davis was healthy they'd be better over that stretch.

6-6 against a soft schedule without AD this season

ETA: not that the record matters much, the Pelicans are quite obviously a better team with Davis than we are without him.

ALso if you're assuming full health for the Pels you're assuming full health for OKC so you still wouldn't be in the playoffs.

Let's just leave Davis off for now. I mean Harden lead a team who's next 3 best players were Asik, Lin, Parsons, to the Western conference playoffs. If you were to add Harden to say Minnesota's roster or Orlando's roster it would def be better than the Houston roster he took to the playoffs in yr 1.

Yes it matters because he said if Davis was healthy the team would easily be in the playoffs. If you're winning games without him, then him being out doesn't hurt the playoff chances.

There's only 1 player on that list I'd take over Paul.

Come on man. You are taking the rings argument too far. Paul is undeniably a better PG than both of those guys.

Also, you give barkley and malone a pass for running into MJ. at least 2 of paul's best teams were outed by the spurs.

Neither of those Spurs teams that Paul lost to were the eventual NBA Champions nor did they meet in the Finals. This argument should be revisited when Paul at least makes it past the second round. Until then, he's like Tracy McGrady at PG.

And just to be clear, I'm not disagreeing that Paul is better than Parker NOW.

Yes, that is correct, he's at worst, the 2nd best PG to every play IMO.

You believe that Chris Paul is better than Magic, Stockton, Thomas and Oscar Robertson?

not magic.

I'd concede Robertson. It's so hard to quantify the greats from back in the day.

Stockton and Thomas, yes, Paul has played at a higher level than they ever have, definitely.

Tony Parker has played with Tim Duncan his entire career. What has he accomplished without him?

6-6 with losses coming to Knicks, 76ers, Jazz, Pacers, and an OT loss to Golden State.

Yeh, Pelicans easily have at least 3 more wins and are in comfortable playoff position if he plays those 6 games. Ridiculous to deny that.

but you'd have to assume full health for OKC too, which means they would still be out of the hunt.

That being said, take AD off the rram, and I'm not yet convinced any of them would still have this team in the top 8,exeept for lebron and Westbrook.

Wrong. There is a certain threshold of wins that gets you into the playoffs each year. It includes stuff like the high chance that 1 of the top 8 teams might be heavily effected by injuries. This year, like many years in the West, the amount of wins needed will be respectably high.

The question is which player, if healthy, can get the team to the playoffs. Not which player, if healthy, could get the team to the playoffs if every single player in the NBA is healthy.

AD might do it this year. He certainly would be in position to do it if he had a healthy season. Ergo, he is one of the players capable of doing it.

No you don't. Not for THIS discussion. Its unlikely that a healthy AD would not be able to get his team in the playoffs. There ARE going to be injuries. And AD's injury happened to, but I read the question as a hypothetical exercised only on the player in question. I'm saying his talent level is clearly enough to make a bad team a playoff team when he plays. He has about a 50/50 chance of doing that this year even with the missed games and the Pelicans will almost certainly finish with a better record than the Rockets did in Harden's first season with a stronger schedule.

he'd be the same player in a more favorable situation made to have better stats.

But he'd be the same player.

I don't understand how you arrived at this.

He'd still be the same player just playing with better team mates. He'd have more wins but that doesn't make him a better player.

Do subjective awards matter to you in determining who is a better player? Things like ALL NBA, MVPS, All Star games?

Players on championship winning teams are more likely to win those awards.
