I like your list if we're doing best rock guitarists
I would say
Chet Atkins
Django Reinhardt
Steve Howe
Wes Montgomery
Pat Metheny
John McLaughlin
John Scofield
Jeff Beck
Paco De Lucia
Duane Allman(biased pick)

This is probably the correct answer but Richard Gilewitz gives him a run for his money.

No problem, it's criminal how unknown he is as an amazing musician.
I would also put Carl Perkins up there as well

Sigh. I don't even know who Michael Houser is. But I'm pretty sure you are wrong. And I like Bob Weir and the Dead. And have seen him frequently before and after the Dead. And he is not in the conversation for great guitarists.

I completely agree with you, In my opinion I like him more than the guitarist for WSP, that's all.

Trey is damn good but I'm not sure if he's in the same league as JH

This topic seems to hit the board on a regular basis and it's not a fair question. Guitarist are divided into 2 types: Originators and mechanical perfectionist.
Joe Bonamassa is a mechanical perfectionist and Eric Clapton (among several other equally as great guitarist) is an originator.
Clapton changed the landscape of guitar playing...not once but several times (Yardbirds, John Mayall Band, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney and Bonnie and solo).
Clapton gets my vote.
