Why is Chuck the "cash cow" for the high end law firm? Did I miss something?

As long as he's not committed then they don't have to pony up any dough. He's a partner in the firm, but obviously he's out of his mind and isn't worried about the money. Which is why Jimmy was trying to take care of that in the first episode.

or that by not being committed he was saving them $14M.

That's kind of the same thing

I'm guessing he was the best lawyer there when he was sane. Maybe he sued a tobacco company or something like that.

And big tobacco countered by assaulting him with major doses of electrical poisoning.

If he's ruled insane then that could bring into question any of his past rulings...just my guess?

He's not a judge. Lawyers don't make rulings. Now, a case could potentially be retried if it was determined he was not competent to practice law at the time he represented someone (e.g., a defendant was not provided an adequate defense as a result of his lawyer's mental problems), but proving he is "insane" now would not necessarily prove he was "insane" then.

I doubt it. Jimmy's goal from the beginning has been to get Chuck the lump sum of money he is owed as a founding partner of the firm and I think that's all he's insinuating here.

He's convinced that the douchebag lawyer (whatever his name is, I forget ... Harry?) is only trying to keep Chuck from being committed so that he doesn't have to cash him out.

It really seems unnecessarily complicated for it to be anything else.

Also, typing this it kind of reminds me of Walt and Grey Matter, how he never got to cash out on that because he left too early.

or maybe he was so good he didn't need to be a frivolous lawsuit lawyer and ambulance chaser to make a name for the firm he basically founded. That and the fact he isn't really drawing any money from it since he believe he's "too sick to work", means his name is helping the place and he's not really taking anything from it.

What's going to be interesting, is if this finally winds up in court, as Jimmy keeps saying he'ed love to get in front of a judge and have them decide how much Chuck is owed, I predict there is a really good courtroom epi over the horizon, but who knows, maybe things go so far south so fast, Jimmy can't even get it into a court.

What seems clear is that by the time BB rolls around, Chuck is no longer converting oxygen, maybe it winds up a suicide, but it just seems like he's gone.

Maybe I am confused, but I think it was episode 2 when

1. Jimmy is in jail in NM;

2. Jimmy call mom who tells Chuck;

3. Chuck comes to NM (my recollection is Chuck came from Illinois) and visits Jimmy in jail;

4. Chuck agrees to represent Jimmy in NM.

Did Chuck come from Illinois or was he already in NM?

I have a question related to BB:

SPOILERS

Did Saul ever interact with Tuco in BB season 1? I can't remember, and it's been so long.

I don't think Saul was even a character in season 1 of BB, but I could be wrong.

Saul came after Tuco.

They looked into hiring Saul after Badger got busted distributing because Tuco was no longer available to distribute.

BB Season 2 Episode 8 is "Better Call Saul" and I just got to it in my rewatch.

What an episode it is...the introduction of the Saul Goodman character is amazing.

Btw the very second scene he's in, in BB, is him with a bag over his head on his knees in the desert with a gun held to him.

So many parallels
