Trying to transfer about 300GB of movies/music from one external HD to another (both WD), and my speeds are slow as frick. I have no idea what the problem is. It jumps up from around 15 to 25MB/s when it first starts up, and then gradually slows down to around 5-6MB/s. Has been sitting around 2.5MB/s for an hour now, and this is driving me nuts. Any ideas, or is it time to break out the hammer?

You're only going to transfer as fast as your slowest link...

Okay, so that would be ~25MB/s as per my computer. So why is is stuck at 1/5th of that?

How big are the individual files, etc...

Remember when Windows would say 99% or one minute remaining for like 10 minutes..

I really don't think there will be a concrete answer other than file size fluctuations causing the transfer speeds to fluctuate too..

I know that isn't a ton of help, but its better than nothing

Well, standard song size and movie size. They are old movies, so they aren't HD or anything
