IIRC, he's been pretty bad the last few seasons. I don't expect us to sign Talib, however going into the season with Finnegan, who is coming off a couple of bad seasons, is too risky.

I like Ridley but not as a Saint. Ball security is a big thing for CSP and Ridley is turnover prone. Plus he's one dimensional. We can draft someone just as good or better in the later rounds.

our options at rb (assuming ingram is gone)
ridley - like it
gurley - like him in the 2nd or 3rd
spiller - would love it, but he won't be cheap at all. If Ingram can get 4-6, what can spiller get?
another UDFA - we don't have time for that shite
roll with robinson and Thomas - could work, but I don't like it. Both were injured last year, robinson is limited in what he can do, but Thomas showed a lot when he came back even if he has been in the league for some time.

I would support a Ridley addition because I'm a Saints fan, but I don't think he's right for the Saints.

Wouldn't we be better off getting Jacquizz Rodgers? He fits that Sproles/Bush model, would probably be cheaper and we take him from a rival.

I would love to see reggie bush back
Thomas, Robinson and Reggie with Robinson playing spotter for whoever is hurt at the time.

I don't think the Saints are going to add Reggie Bush. I really think they think they can sign Mark Ingram.

even if they could afford him, which they cannot, why the frick would he stay?
he doesn't get used like he should as often as he should, and he's young enough to go out, beast it up and get another good payday before it's over...he'll never do that in NOLA with Sean Payton.
I think he'll be a giant, but I have zero doubts he'll be in the NFC East this year

IF they were cheap that would be two great players to sign.
CJ didn't miss a lot of games, but he did have nagging injuries like ankle problems.

The second part is why I think we could lose him, but Payton is definitely in his ear telling him how he is his guy and how much they like him and traded up to draft him.
Time will tell how much it's about money and opportunity.

quote:I don't think he's going to get $6MM...anywhere. He may graze the $5MM ceiling, but he won't get that from the Saints. I think if he stays in the $3.5MM-$3.8MM range, the Saints will do what they can to retain him.

Why would he do that? I have no earthly idea. Maybe the Saints will just bet on his market. But there's no doubt they want him back if they can make it work.

we're not in a position to pay running backs. It's probably the position we should be skimping on. I love Ingram, I think he's a beast. I have no doubts the Saints want him back. But if Philly or NYG or Dallas (if they lose out on murray and Peterson) offer him the same that we do, he'd be a fool not to go there.
Big whoop, the saints want him. They want him to split carries with 2 other players, one of which is inferior to him in every single way.

Would think they are hoping for the 3-4 mil a year range as well.
B'more seems a landing spot.

So you're saying if he would get a similar offer from Dallas or NYG, he would bolt? Because I don't think that's the case. Maybe Mark Ingram isn't a knucklehead and he knows that if he stays in New Orleans he won't be hit for 30 carries a game and have his career cut short and miss another contract.

also if you consider the fit
the saints don't run the ball as much as
philly
NYG
Dallas
Baltimore
or any of the teams that will be interested in his services. We're also in a dire situation cap wise and I would assume not be able to overpay at all if another team is willing to outmatch us

So I just saw that CJ Spiller turned down a $4.5/year extension this season and could be seeking $5MM+. Also just saw that the Eagles are interested in Mark Ingram.
If his market materializes, he's gone.

if I were a betting man, I'd bet mark ingram can't wait to get the frick away from sean payton.
Posted on 3/4/15 at 1:16 pm to DelU249
You say that, but don't you realize that Sean Payton helped make Mark Ingram the $5MM RB he is going to be?
Posted on 3/4/15 at 1:17 pm to The Sad Banana
he made himself the %5M RB he is going to be...and he was only able to do so because of multiple injuries at the position so Sean Payton literally had no choice but to use him in a feature role.
