IMO people who serve their time should be able to earn the right to vote again. Not like many would vote anyway.

This isn't answering your question, but they're probably more knowledgeable than some of the other voters out there.

They've probably had plenty of time to read up on things.

Convicted felons are allowed to vote if they weren't convicted of a violent crime

What about felonious fraud?

They'd fit right in with the rest of politics.

Boom.

Yes and they can

This past November I was able to petition the courts and jump through some hoops. Took me 14 months but I got my voting rights restored.

After you pay your dues to society. Pay off all your restitution. Finish all probation. Of course you should be allowed to vote.

I'd say almost everyone has done something that could be a felony. No reason to look down on people that made a mistake and got caught.

I say we applaud ones that have gotten out of the system considered it's almost designed to keep you down after ever being involved in it. Ideally you would hope people wouldn't get involved in the first place, but who am I to to look down on someone that was able to persevere through hard times. Character gained in someone that finds there self behind the eight ball is underrated.

Why? If they've paid their debt to society and don't commit another crime in the future?

I'd be more leery of, say, white collar criminals being allowed to vote again, because the nature of their transgressions lends itself to being useful in shrewdly voting for representatives that will allow loopholes for them to commit similar acts in the future. No one's going to run for office who is lax on violent crime

Now, repeat felons (both violent and non-violent), I believe should have their suffrage permanently revoked.

Anyone can vote. Felons, dead people etc.

Signed,

The Obama Administration

On a serious note, I concur that felons should be able to vote. It's an archaic law that needs to be revisited.

I'm not sure if that is right or wrong... I know I had to petition the courts. Send off a bunch of shite. fill out different paper works... but I don't ever remember them asking if I had any violent offenses or not..

I do know I tried to stay on top of it and it took me exactly 14 months and literally got my voting card a couple days before the first Tuesday in November...

Last time I had voted before getting my rights back had been 2000 for Bush over Gore Which was a fraudulent vote (tPOS) because I had already been convicted of a felony but I don't think it had hit yet or whatever. Since this was in La and my arrest was in Florida where I was put on probation.
