I never found out for sure, but I highly suspected this guy I worked with that would always tell me "I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers".

no but I had a great aunt and uncle killed by the mafia in 1948 in Winsboro. Gunned down in their home on Halloween night.

I'm guessing the "maphia " in LA uses nutria piss to grease their hair?

My uncle's office used to be in the back of Lucky Coin. We used to joke about him having people picked off. Still don't know what he does other than being personal attorney for John Georges.

You didn't play OG, did you? Used to play with a guy on OL that had an uncle that was sorta in control of an "area"..
Never mind.

Don't worry bout it, I was ramblin'.
I used to play football with a guy that had an uncle that was, shall we say, an "area mgr.". I was jokingly asking you if that nephew was you, from around early 1970 ish.

Anyone who will tell you they are in the mafia is full of shite. The code of Omertà is highly valued in La Cosa Nostra and the entire idea of keeping a low profile is compromised if you go around telling people you're connected.
Anyone who does that is either lying or about to get 2 in the back of the head with the quickness.
Thanks for the lesson, Joe Montegna.

No one. I used to work for connected people. It used to be fairly dangerous to joke about stuff like that. But, for the most part, the old organization is dead. RICO killed it good and dead - except for a few pockets, a few industries and a few unions.
Most of the old general vice stuff is dead and that is how the average joe used to run into connected folks. And we're now several generations (100+ years) into the American Cosa Nostra, most of the younger kids were urged to go legitimate, and many did, owning jewelry stores, grocery stores, liquor stores, things like that.

Have you known anyone who has done tbis?

That's actually not all that accurate. From what I have read the mafia has made a real resurgence post 9/11 because of the FBI literally exhausting all of its resources on terrorism.

My great uncle was well known for his mafia connections. The only problem is that he was extorted by them. Not really as cool.

Stolen valor, there's no bigger pieces of shite on the planet.

My dad use to work in a melamine plant alongside members of the Marcello's crime family. The plant had gone on strike so the mob was brought in as scabs since they weren't afraid to cross the picket lines and the union thugs wouldn't dare touch them. My dad caught them trying to steal melamine (a fine white powder) so they could use it to cut their cocaine. While he didn't report them to the authorities (you know...so he wouldn't die), he explained to them that doing so would likely kill whomever attempted to snort the coke, leading to potential retaliation. They thanked him for saving their business. From then on, he rode into the plant with them and the union thugs never messed with his car again. Also, they thanked him by taking some high strength chromium alloy piping and fashioning it into a BBQ pit, smoker, and the sturdiest mailbox of all time.

When I lived in Chicago I knew REAL thugs who were far scarier than the mafia: the Teamsters Union.
