As I look at the tracker list and see many 3 stars uncommitted I wonder why these guys wait so long. One would think they would jump in and grab a spot before there are none to be had. Of course they could be processed but if I'm a three star I'm jumping on board. I'm sure it's a lot more complex than I make it but just looking for the rationale.

Many of them don't have committable offers.

Coaches want to see them in person first.

A lot of these 3 stars will move to 4 stars by the end of the cycle.. Summer after junior year and senior year is when you see the most movement.. Also there are just too many kids for all these sites to keep
Up with certain sites pick up on kids earlier than others and all the sites just plain miss very talented kids

Bingo. That's the case for 3 stars in state at least. They are just waiting from that offer from LSU so they can commit on the spot. If not, they will go with some of the other options they have.

Yip just like Foster Moreau last cycle. He publicly committed when he didn't have a firm offer and had to sweat his spot on signing day.

Some of them have options that are better than the average 3* and they haven't figured out where they want to go yet. Some are waiting to blow up and see what is out there. Some can't commit.

This. It varies.

For example, for positions like OL who start 5 people at a time, a lot of 3 stars have a good amount of top level D1 offers. It's always a heavy position of need so most take on average 3-4 a year. So those guys have a lot to choose from.

Non commit offers in state, are usually guys they want to see at a camp, or improve over their senior year.

Sometimes they want to see just who else they can receive offers from. I'd hate to commit to a school because LSU seems like they weren't going to offer then I get a commit-able offer about a month or two later.

A lot of guys blow up after their junior tape gets out, and/or they really start hitting the circuit. Happened to Brandon Harris, happened to Marshon Lattimore, happened to Donte Jackson, and is happening to Cole Kelley as we speak. Guy wasn't even rated about 2 and a half months back. Now he is the 9th rated pro style QB and a top 200 recruit. That definitely means much more offers are coming.

Im pretty sure most look at how depth charts shake out as well (how many they are taking at his position plus kids at the school). Let's say a school gets 3 guys at your position (5 star, two 4 stars), a position that only uses 2 people at a time. Let's say there are already 6 players at that position, and only one is a senior the year you get to campus, do you commit to this school, or wait til a less daunting depth chart hits your offer sheet?

These, and I expect many more things, are on players' minds.
