I had the thought that a thread similar to the whiskey appreciation thread for wine would be interesting. Here goes...

(1st bottle tonight) 2011 Stag's Leap Petit Sirah (to be paired with a prime porterhouse tonight)...higher acidity, firm tannins, liquorice, plum and blackberry.

really nice wine from a great Silverado trail winery. Purchased at Brady's in Central City

A stadium cup allows the wine to breath, IMHO. I'd drink that wine, too, TA.

If you like Pritchard Hill keep going up the hill to David Arthur. Try the Meritagio, a great cab franc and the Elevation.

And while I'm not having any tonight I have a very nice Rivers Marie Cab pulled out for tomorrow nights dinner after play practice. It will be good.

As long as you properly decant before pouring in a solo cup.

Sounds really good, Martini

I love wine but I also believe wine is a lot of hype with price

I bought some $2.99 trader joes wine last weekend and put it in a decanter

All night people were asking what brand it was and how good it was. It was very good and $3. I've also had $50 bottles that were shite. 95% of the population can't tell the difference.

Everything is hype but if consider the fixed costs of wine making are somewhat similar. That is a cork, bottle, ferment tank, licenses, etc... are somewhat similar. What it really means is sometimes a 3 dollar wine can taste delicious and sometimes a 50 dollar wine can taste awful.

But if you dont think the money actually spent on the juice in the bottle matters, you fell for different hype.

Yeah i agree.

I'm just saying I work with some wine snobs. They only look at the price and consider it good if it's over $100

We ordered a $40 bottle at a 5 star steakhouse a month ago and followed it up with a $120 bottle. Both me and wife thought $40 bottle was better but coworkers raved about $120 bottle. Perception is reality

You needed to reverse that order.

Not to mention, what they were really fighting about was whether a 15 dollar bottle of eine was better than a 40 dollar bottle wine

True. Has the average mark up risen , or has it always been this high?

Just curious, but why was pritchard hill brought up for a wine located in the yountville/SLD area of the napa valley. Sure it sounds cool to say something that could seem relative, but nowhere in this thread was anything ever mentioned about a winery from there. A more accurate proposal would be to say "why don't you try to get your hands on some shafer. Potentially some of the best juice in the valley right next door to these guys. Or potentially Odette estate as well. Odette just released their inaugural 2012 vintage with Parker calling it one of the next cult wines if naps valley. They make a second label called Adaptation that's solid as well in Chard, Cab, and Petite Sirah."

If you like Barolo Chinato, you'll probably like (if you haven't already had it) Amaro as an after dinner drink. I finish most meals with Amaro Montenegro or Nonino. Good stuff. It's sweet, bitter, alcoholic, much like me.

This right here though is something I can get into. Chinato wines are so under appreciated. The bitterness from the cinchona bark is delicious to finish a meal. I prefer the Barolo Chinatos, but the moscato Chinatos are great as well.
