Someone swiped the 2 hp off my drift boat last fall and I need to replace it.

Why not used a Electric trolling motor and battery?

This. The 30" bass pro trolling motor I have would probably put you on plane.

2-4 hp 2 stroke + fuel weighs less than a trolling motor and you can fish for several days on just a few gallons of fuel. With fuel weighing around 6 lbs/gallon you can carry a hell of a lot of fuel and still weigh less than a trolling motor battery.

I've done the trolling motor thing on both my drift boat and a transom canoe, it's just not worth the hassle.

Sorry for your loss, OP.

You have to really be losing at life to steal a 2hp outboard motor.

Nice.

My Dad had a 5.5 Evinrude when we were kids. It was a great little motor. He used it up until the late 80s.

I came home one day to find he had junked it. He would only say "It wouldn't run anymore."

I kind of doubted him, that motor was well cared for, and would have run forever with a little maintenance.

That Evinrude fisherman is pretty bitchin. I had one as a kid on a 13ft boston whaler. We had to keep a box in the boat with extra points and condensers at all times.

How about a Mud motor kit?
And add 3hp from harbor freight.

How reliable are those? I may look into that in the medium size for my boat

The kit is OK. They have plastic end bearings that require attention but the kit itself isn't terrible. The harbor freight honda clones aren't the most reliable things on the planet and they are are kind of heavy. 55-60 lbs for a 3hp, you won't be setting any speed records.

Got a 1985 yamaha 2 hp in my shed, did a full tune up on it over the winter. Used it a bunch when I was younger then it set up for about 5 years. Pulled it down and got it back to 100% this past year. Can send pics if your interested

If the 2hp the OP had was a Mercury he's gonna need a 25-30hp Johnson/Evinrude if he wants to match the same requirement for speed.

I actually have a 3.5 laying around. Shipping would be a pain though.

That's a damn good little motor. The 15 inch shaft motors were like 20 lbs and pretty much bullet proof. I found a Honda 2.3 but I might be interested in your 2 smoke depending on how much you want for it

Yeah you can one hand it with your left hand

Fresh gas tank, impeller, Spark Plug, LU oil and gasket...she's good for 10+ more (barring some dirty bastard swiping it)

It's definitely a good little engine, and not as loud as those little Honda's. Send me an email, MrBobDobalinaTD @ yahoo . com
