Planning a trip in the near future. Who all has been? What would you recommend? Boat, jeep, helicopter tours? And which rim is best? Thanks

Some good info in this thread

Depends on what you're doing (hiking?), and what you want to see. They are both very different in landscape, as the North Rim is at a higher elevation. The North Rim is much more forested and green, TONS of aspens. As another poster mentioned it's much less crowded. It felt like there was hardly anyone there when we went at the beginning of August a couple of years ago. If staying for a few nights, I'd suggest the North Rim and grab one of the cabins if they're even still available.

However, unless you are hiking to the bottom and back, IMO I would not suggest making the Grand Canyon your only destination if you are vacationing for a few days or more. I'd suggest you stay a night at one of the rims and spend the day checking out some of the trails. I've been to North Rim, and we incorporated this with a trip to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon Natl Park, and a stop in Page, AZ on the way there and saw Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Stayed a few nights at Zion, there is lots to do there. Bottom line is, GC is just awesome, but after a full day it's possible to see just about everything there is at the rim.

I'm going to the South Rim over spring break for the first time, and we're taking a day trip there from Sedona, where we're staying for 5 nights.

If you are into hiking/camping a Rim to Rim hike is incredible. I went last summer and we stayed in a cabin on north rim night 1, backpacked across to the south rim and camped nights 2-4 inside the canyon, stayed in Sedona night 5. A very unique experience but camp permits have to be reserved 3 months ahead.

If you are going in the next month or so you could always spend a few days in Phoenix for spring training, then check out the south rim and Sedona for a day or two. I'm pretty sure the north rim is closed until first of May.
