Sporting Kansas City have offered Rafael van der Vaart over €4.3m/$4,8m per season if he joins the American side, "Bild" reports. #HSV

I don't get it. It basically goes against everything we've been doing the last few years.

What don't you get? This would be a quality signing. I'm surprised that this is really the first "top" Euro player to look at signing with SKC to be honest.

The MLS really needs to figure out how to get out of this. Players should not be making the most they've ever made when they are way past their prime.

MLS set the standard now players will hold them to it.

It doesn't help the retirement league tag

The retirement league tag sucks and I want to get away from it--so no thank you to Van der Vaart. Lets go get exciting young players in South America and Europe who are not starting reliably yet.

Issue is they don't want to come, unless they are getting paid way over market value.

Until our home grown talent gets better the older euro most times will still be better than a majority of players.

Issue with the MLS is the bench depth is almost non existent as well.

Honestly, I'd be surprised to see some of these Euro guys go to MLS in cities like Kansas City. They're looking for LA, New York and Florida for the most part.

Europeans love them some Florida vacations lmao.

It's just not the way Sporting's been working the last few years. With the style we play, an older player that's injury prone isn't exactly ideal.

We're paying over market-value for the older guys, why not pay over market-value for younger guys who will at least have re-sale value?

There's plenty of 20-24 year olds riding the bench for major teams in Europe and South America who could be successful here. Look at Fanendo Adi, Obafemi Martins, Fabian Espindola, Freddy Montero, Marco Pappa, Sebastian Fernandez, Andres Escobar, etc. Fringe national teamers for Uruguay, Chile, and solid national teamers Venezuela, Peru, Paraguay, etc should be targets.
