I just went and looked.

Search "Longhorn horns" and "longhorn skull".

Be patient and find a set you like. There are a lot to choose from.

Clyde, Will you be able to sell off some of his sperm? Would it be in demand, or not really?

ETA: I am a city boy and know next to nothing about this.

Not really. I wouldn't be opposed to it if someone approached me about paying to collect him and that's always a possibility. But really he's just here for natural service to our cows.

Do you have some heifers that will flatten out the horns and add base? Like some starbase commander for base and clear win for flat horns? But color looks good

Looks like he has some meat on the bones also. I need to get a steer for front pasture ornament.

I don't think this is correct. I have a neighbor that sells cows for more than this on the regular. He has cows that he has payed over half a million for.

And yes I know the difference in cows and bulls.

I think he was referring to Longhorns specifically

He's got 17 inch bases.

And I traded in my Clear Win son for this guy. Star base Commander and Clear Win carry a stigma in the industry as having Watusi influence. I don't know if it's true or not, but the stigma is one of the reasons that helped me decided to get rid of the Clear Win genetics I had.

To the other question, that quote about highest selling cow is referring to longhorns only.

He's freakishly huge for a longhorn.

I've sold two young steers in the last year specifically for that around the Shreveport area. I don't have any colorful ones right now... That's what everybody wants obviously. I only have a solid red and solid black steer that will be ropers in another month or so...

To give some perspective to his size, look how big he is next to one of our bigger cows... Granted, she's coming out of winter and has a 3 month old calf on her so she's a little worn down right now.

He is very impressive.

How much experience do you have with other breeds and what's the biggest difference you see in Longhorns vs others?

We had herefords in the 90's. Seems like one always had pink eye.

And to that point, longhorns have the best disease resistance of any breed. Living alone from when the Spanish explorers dropped them off in the late 1400's until the cowboys began rounding them up from the wild in the late 1800's ensured that only the strongest survived and were allowed to pass on their disease resistant genetics.

We vaccinate, but they are hardy animals in general.

Hell no. I'm not that crazy...

Regular trailer, but he barely fits. He's been in a trailer a lot so he knows how to work his horns and get out. They know exactly how long their horns are. Check out this gif I made from him unloading in Del Rio, TX last year. This video convinced me to buy him if I got the chance.

I'll go ahead and assume getting him into a squeeze chute is totally out of the question.

No, we can squeeze anything. I have a specialized squeeze for longhorns.

Instead of a long narrow walk way they come around a 6 foot wide sweep. About the time they realize it's a dead end a secondary gate comes in from the back side and squeezes them in a "cage". Once you're through with what you have to do, the dead end opens up and spits them out into a small sorting pen.
